perhaps it will be useful to ask a simple question....

As a nation, we have done a lot to prevent covid spreading.

My hypothetical or perhaps philosophical question is - is there anything we absolutely will NOT do even if covid spreads wildly to every single person? I am asking whether there is rubicon line about all that we have or are willing to do to stem covid?

I am asking where do we as a country decide to stop?

We are moving towards an endemic end game but before we reach there, the idea is to get most of the nation fully vaccinated. This is premised upon the vaccination in preventing severe cases which require substantial medical intervention. We are nearing this goal but not quite there yet. Having to start deal with mass infection as this point will simply distract and delay the vaccination process; people on SHN/QO, close contacts can't be vaccinated.

As a society, are we prepared to go down the route of many western countries and accept the level of infections and death? I don't think our society is robust enough.

he is making the argument for the impossible (all residents go thru testing every few days), to say that dining in must be delayed.

What an idiot. Dr. LHN wants residents tested every few days?
SG got 5 million plus population.
Say roughly 3 million are above 16 years.
So he wants 3 million tested every few days.
say every 3 days.
That is 120 times per year.
That is 360 million tests in 1 year.
Does SG have the logistics to handle this?
Can SG afford to pay for this?
Is it free?
Dr LHN expect SG people to pay for 120 tests per year?
No wonder, he works in Mount Elizabeth - a Cut throat specialist.

Dr Leong Hoe Nam, an infectious diseases specialist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, said the spread of Covid-19 in an open-air environment like the Bukit Merah hawker centre is alarming.

"What the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and we have been saying is that ventilation helps (reduce the spread of Covid-19). In terms of outdoor dining and preparation of food, it doesn't get better than a hawker centre - but yet we succumbed to many cases," he noted.

This means that there could be risks if Singapore returns fully to dining in, including in air-conditioned settings, he said.

Dr Leong believes dining in may have to be put on hold unless the country is prepared to take drastic, large-scale measures, such as requiring all residents to go through antigen testing once every few days, or setting up antigen testing and Covid-19 breathalyser systems at all malls and food centres.

WTF..

u mean u think ... cases in india was dining inside air condition room? or air-condition buses for that matter

But we have no choice. Unless one likes living in a prison
