Btw they say dinner needs long pants/collar top for guys except the Lido

How strict are they with this ?

I think Asian cruise no okay. All my RC and Costa cruise okay one. My recent Princess cruise formal wear very strict.

One man wear office wear but with sport shoe not allow to go in, argue very loud, eventually i saw him in another restaurant.

Went for City Check in today

For sailing on Sunday, they offer City check in on Fri and Sat

Gotten all our key cards already

The guy at the office there said by this way save one step for tomorrow

Tomorrow just need to wait for luggage scan and immigration clearance only

Think they plan for this long term

City check in is one of the option at the queue ticket machine at their office at Genting Centre

Went there today slightly over 10am, just after their office open. Nobody there at all.

So assume I was the first one

After that got another guy came to do the city check in as well

Seems like not many people are using this method to hasten the boarding process

Think they should send out sms/whatsapp instead of email like what they did

That sounds good, seems like they are trying very hard to salvage the situation, wonder how effective when my mom show me newspaper also publish the 2 hr delay and picture of Long Q of the nov 20 sailing.

Do update on your experience when u r back, the hardware (ship itself) is really awesome, will consider sailing again if service improve

The wifi is for 2 devices wor if I'm not wrong, so it is on par or slightly cheaper than RC. I can do WhatsApp call, abit lag but still good

Btw, anyone know what's GD max passengers capacity?

I can't conclude but I read somewhere is 5k. It's lower berths capacity is no doubt 3.3k.

According to this news, GD maiden voyage to Bali have 2561 passengers onboard. so GD take up rate is pretty low. Consider now is peak holiday season.

It is also possible that people are worried about the recent Bali volcano eruption thus sailing to Bali has lesser people? Maybe phuket one will have more passenger.

Dream palace

Hello! I’m going on the cruise soon. Does anyone here know what are the complimentary dining options for dream palace guests and whether meals/snacks are available for suite guests 24 hrs? I’ve read that there are no free supper options for regular guests but not sure abt suite guests? Wondering whether I need to bring my own snacks! I’m bringing young teenagers along and theres is not much info online :(

I just got back from the dream palace suite, it is really lovely.

Dining option include (complimentary):
[All guest]
The regular non-suite restaurant (buffet and set meal style) 3 main meals
Morning snack and afternoon tea (idk location) - 2 light snacks

[Suite guest]
All the above, and include below:
The suite palace restaurant at level 17 - 3 main meals
The complimentary specialty restaurant (2 for 2 night, 5 for 5 night sailing) - under main meal, either lunch or dinner
Seafood BBQ night (5 night sailing only) - on Thursday ( my butler didn't tell me and I miss it, sob sob)
Afternoon tea at suite palace level 16
Supper around 11- I can't remember wat time ( palace suite restaurant)

So basically, u can have 3 main meal and 2 light snack in between and a supper after 11pm. Rule for dining: u can only choose to dine once per session. Additional entry during same dining period is charged $15 per entry

Eg. If you dine at mark best (specialty restaurant) at 6pm, and u decided to pop by buffet at 8.30, as dinner time is 5.30-9.30, u r consider 2 round dining hence will be charged $15 ( the rule according to my butler on first night)

BUT, one night I have dinner at Silk Road and it is horrible, I complain to my butler and she kindly agree to allow me to dine again at Chinese restaurant (common area) under her escort and we have priority entry, no scan card no extra charged.

Booking available for lunch and dinner, breakfast at palace suite cannot book, depends on luck whether need to Q or not.

Room service available with a charge ( according to my butler)

I do not feel hungry, all meals I didn't have to Q.

Lunch Menu at palace restaurant rotates every 3 days (cuz on 4th day I see same menu) - ask when is the lobster day and go for it

Must go specialty: Mark best for steak. Hot pot for Super large portion serving. Teppanyaki for the Chef performance.
Avoid Silk Road

Enjoy your trip and kindly update if the service improve, whether the Q is still horrible for non suite guest restaurant and activities

Wow thanks for the super detailed info! I’m going for the 2 nite cruise only so your recommendations for the specialty restaurant is indeed helpful! Hope I can get to try the steak! Will update again when I come back. Hope there aren’t anymore super long queues but I wld imagine there wld be queues for for the 2nite cruise cos so short time to try everything!

no doubt will have, however I believe majority in favour of this itinerary would have already book before the volcano erupt.

By the way, i heard GD will be offering new itineraries starting April, to South China sea. We'll likely see Laem Chabang (Bangkok), giving us another reason (or excuse) to cruise again, haha.

Weekend cruise should be quite full, u can go and ask your butler to book the restaurant once u board.

U can register as dream elite member, then at the precruise planning you can check out the different menu from specialty restaurant, it might help u to plan ahead and know which restaurant you want to go.

If 2 nights I would recommend mark best and teppanyaki or hotpot. Beware that hotpot you cannot order the deluxe combination. We (2 girls) order a complimentary chicken and seafood set totally cannot finish. 1 set 2 person can share

I cruise to lame chabang onboard ovation of the sea few month back in Apr, didn't alight cuz it is 2 hrs away from Bangkok. That's y got special cheap price (we paid around $900 per pax with USD $200 credit per balcony cabin) It is a cargo area. We stay onboard and play 3 rounds of surf simulator cuz Q so short lol. I miss ovation y she no come back SG awww

Just came back fro 6D5N cruise to Surabaya/North Bali on Genting Dream

Will say the experience is better than expected

We only booked balcony class, no suit

Did city check in the day b4. Arrived at MB Crusie terminal around 12.30pm, boarding suppose to start at 1

Everything was a breeze

By 1.30pm we were already having lunch onboard

Only complaint was the luggage only reached our cabin after 6pm but no major issue

Food wise it's more asian oriented. Don't have the fine dining amg moh food like RC.

The western complimentary restaurant only got one choice of fish/meat/asian/vegitarian main course for each meal. plus buffet of salad, soup and desert

Chinese restaurant food is better but can get a bit boring after a while. Always one appetizer, one soup, 5 main dishes, rice and desert. The desert at the Chinese restuarant is lousy. Every meal will have one prawn , one fish dish, one meat, one vege, one tofu/mis. At least 2 nights got abalone soup plus oysters etc

The buffer restaurant is a surprise. Food quality is better than RC
The last night of our cruise got lobster on ice, sashimi, baked oysters plus other seafood dishes. They even used real abalone in the stir fry brocolli. The night b4 got crayfish and crabs. Other nights also the selection was not bad. Ended up we ate 3 nights at the buffet restaurant

Usual trick is to check the menu at all 3 places then decide where you want to eat.

One thing to note is the Chinese restaurant lots of time they put party of 4 in table meant for 6 but the kitchen will serve food portion for 6. So really there is a lot of food if you get portions for 6. Unlikely to get hungry unless you stay till 2 or 3 am

But then the blue lagoon serves hawker style food at $5 only after 11pm

So no problem if you get hungry.

Btw there is absolutely no dress code for the complimentary restuarants at all.

Not sure about the speciality ones.

For shore excursion it's very well organized compared to Ovation of the sea

Once booked the excursion you will be given the tickets and sticker straight away

So just go to assembly place to wait

Much better compare to our Ovation tour of Hainan and Vietnam last year

Even disembarkation at MB cruise centre was fast but held up by the wait for luggage. That may be the problem with the cruise centre and not the ship

But this is the most casino centred ship I've been on

3 level of casinos on the centre part of the ship that you need to walk pass everyday

No restriction of dress code or age to get pass the casino

Bingo also was much big time than on Ovation

Water slides, rope course and zip line was fun

Shows are good, esp the Voyage of a lover's dream signature show. The China got talent show was good as well. The other rhythm dance shop can skip , quite boring

We didn't go for the adult show. Anyway at $78 per pax quite ex

One band from England that performs at the pool deck on a few nights and the closing party is quite good. Thought the performance at the 360 at the casino was boring though

Don't miss the closing party and fireworks for 5 night cruise but it's dependent on the weather though

For 5 nights cruise they got a talent show for kids on the last day afternoon. The performance can be quite good though.

Got some weird programme like the champagne air auction

If you got time to burn and don't mind sipping champagne while looking at people bidding for art pieces and always go and watch.
