Dr Ooi Eng Eong, Professor at the Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases at Duke-NUS Medical School, who was also on the podcast, offered a different view, saying it all boils down to risk appetite and what society is willing to accept.

“Either we bite the bullet and say, okay, this is normal from now on. That we will never be able to gather as a family if the family is larger than five, we will never be able to … celebrate weddings with our families and friends. Are we going to accept that? I am not sure that society is quite prepared for that,’’ he said.

Against the backdrop of high vaccination rates and the ability to carry out rapid testing and contact-tracing, Dr Ooi said: “At some point we have to accept we are chasing our own tail. We (can) go back to our normal lives and expect there will be some severe cases. But that’s a decision for society to make.’’

all those experts, do they have the exact data on the effect the virus might have on the recovered patients like 10, 20, 30 years down the road?

Of course I can accept that but to people that is socialize life v active , u tell them to scale down, they will find it dreadful
They never consider this is covid n special time special efforts

Stop thinking abt yrself but see big pic
Wedding also involves two person n the families
It’s never abt others what
U see they married time tell everyone
Divorce time got do that?

As for family gathering everyone Shld wake up n do small gathering lo
I no jab won’t go restaurant also
It’s just that restaurants hard to make a living but then isn’t the malls n landlords charging way too high?

If these landlords don’t reduce price n expect everyone to work n eat n pay the high rental also irresponsible isn’t it
Then still have ppl want to rent at high charges

If demand starts to drop they either leave the mall empty till no one go or they reduce rent

Once the safety measures (and restrictions) are dropped, most people will run amok under the false impression of security and they will start gathering and providing massive opportunities for the infection to explode across the community.

Are you 100% sure your hospitals and healthcare system will be able to support this?

It will directly impact all types of patients and procedures across the whole healthcare system regardless of covid-related or not.

Are you going to be satisfied with being made to wait half a year or a year for a surgery to fix your condition?

... saying it all boils down to risk appetite and what society is willing to accept.
It is true, at the end of the day, it is only this.

The Jinx Minister has plenty of appetite for risk  His colleagues however, say they do too, but they themselves can’t swallow their own words ... just look at the suspension of Meet The People Sessions.
