The Yomiuri Shimbun
There were no deaths associated with adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine made by U.S.-based Moderna after about 190,000 doses had been administered by June 4, the health ministry has announced. There were also no cases of anaphylaxis, an acute allergic reaction, as defined by international standards during vaccinations administered up through May 30, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry reported to an expert panel on Wednesday.
It was the first time the ministry had released information on adverse reactions to the Moderna vaccine.
The ministry also reported 141 deaths among men and women ranging in age from their 30s to over 99 who had been inoculated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine between May 17 and June 4. In 84 of those cases, it was found "impossible to assess" whether there was a causal link between their death and the vaccine, while possible causal links were "under assessment" for the remaining 57.
As of June 4, approximately 17 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had been administered, and the total number of deaths had reached 196.
A total of 169 cases of anaphylaxis had been confirmed as of May 30, equivalent to 13 cases per 1 million doses of the vaccine.
73 year old Japanese woman died of cardiac arrest, ~3.5h after the vaccine.
