Yes downgrade will likely be the only option if I do not benefit from Premier.

For my own account, I had this Premier credit card too, so called in to cancel it, HSBC could not immediately do it, say tmr card center will call me. I have my son also with Premier but he did not apply credit card.

I think it is not compulsory to hold a Premier Credit Card when you are a Premier member. You can select Premier Debit Card if you think you are not going to use the Premier Credit Card services and do not want to pay the AF.

I wonder if my wife would pay & then cancel it, whether HSBC will then refund back the annual fees. I will wait for HSBC card center reply me tmr for my card cancel request for my account, then will do it for my wife.

They sent notice last year and you probably missed it. I did asked my RM if the fee can be waived upon request and she simply replied better cancel the card. I cancelled it at end Dec. HSBC probably want to clean out a lot of idle premier account and credit card users.

I just received a shocker. My wife premier credit card was charged with an annual fee of 490.50. When request for fee waiver, was rejected. So request for card cancellation, was also rejected. OMG, ask why? CSO said must pay the annual fee & card cannot be cancelled. What rubbish is this? so ask what options do we have, CSO just say must pay. KNN this HSBC, getting on my nerves.
Tmr will check with my RM. Wonder if anyone sees similar issue?
Annual fee is pre-pay .. so cannot even cancel when not going to use the card .. sound weird

it happened to me many years ago. I can't remember which card. AF charged. Called to waive, not approved. CSO informed me I have to pay the AF (T&Cs stated account must be in good condition then can close), they will then cancel the card after settlement of card outstanding and after which they will process the AF chargeback/ refund.

This is unethical practice and you should have raised it for dispute. The annual fee is billed for the year after, so it's not reasonable to collect the annual fee only for you to cancel it right after.

Yes, they already sent notice last year. Only those who can meet the TRB can get annual fees waiver for this credit card, I already cancelled it last year. They want to clear out the deadwood, just read up on HSBC news, they are trying to save money.

I did not recall seeing the notice stating the Premier card fees have to be paid if TRB not met. Cancel the Premier card does not mean you will be downgraded from Premier. Anyway, will get my wife to pay 1st & then cancel & get the refund, similar to SCB cards that I had giro setup for it. Cannot cancel since need the charge amount to be giro from HSBC account. After annual fees paid, request card cancel & get the refund.
HSBC Premier card AF damn ex ~$500.

If they say cannot cancel and refund, ask them to state this in black and white eg by email so that you can show it as supporting document when you file dispute at FIDREC.

why you still want to pay? Many people here already stated can no need pay but you keep insisit to pay it. Annual fee is always for the upcoming year, dont be so gullible leh. You can contact MAS and tell them, they will resolve it for you.

You got received email from them regarding this change of benefits? If you did then it's stated inside. First thing I did was to cancel it.

I also think it's not right to pay since you're cancelling/downgrading. once you pay, you're at their mercy when it comes to refund.

at most raise the case to CASE, or MAS, or FIDReC.

I downgraded last month but never had the premier credit card anyways. they even sent me the normal EGA debit card to replace the premier version lol.

but oddly, I received an email on 31 Jan from some RM introducing himself as "part of a team of Premier Banking Consultants with HSBC Singapore"... strange much.

My previous experience with HSBC cancelling my Visa Infinite card also got charged annual fees which wasn't waived, I didn't pay and after 2 months they gave up and waive the annual fees that I owe.
