Am I right to say that this game I can just close it? I no need to leave it running unless I intend to fight bosses?

yup you can do that, just login once or twice a day to do the following:

1. complete daily quests x5
2. swap and enchant gears / upgrade skills / add attribute
3. clear storage (cos only 175 slots)
4. push for higher level (if necessary)

Season are ways of splitting the players into portion in server. Once the season ends, all will be back at main SEA Server.
