Over a lunch discussion, my dink colleague said he spent $3K to extract a tooth for his rabbit. He had 2 rabbits, so he spent $6K without batting an eye. My other colleague with 2 kids said, she has been pondering of doing a $5K tooth implant for her missing molar for many years...and still postponing the operation so that the money is better spent on her kids education and what not. She shook her head in disbelief this dink colleague just blew $6K without batting an eye.

I think our values in society is getting distorted. People complained raising kid is expensive. Yet they just blew $6K with no hesitation. That colleague eventually left with 1 rabbit. The other one died not long after the operation. So, how many $6K people are going to spend on pets which are short-lived while complaining raising kids is expensive?

Don't get wrong. I loved pet. I had a whole aquarium of fishes when I was a boy. On one occasion, my ignorant aunt drained my whole tank of water and refilled with fresh water from the tap. So, my whole aquarium of fishes got wiped out in an instant. Chinese saying, 鱼虽非我所杀，却因为我带它们回来，因为她的无知而死。 我也作了孽。 I sworn from then onwards, I will not have any pets. Because even if I took full good care of them, they will still die in my hands due to their shorter life span and eventually adding to my sins.
