Actually, many people with the ability to foresee the future, have already said that Johor will....

Independence is definitely not possible. Johor will remain as part of Malaysia.

At the same time, Singapore will definitely remain an independent country.

Very simple la: Johor will get more autonomy. Maybe the new arrangement would be: Johor funds ownself collect and ownself manage.

(Johor people's money will only use in Johor, and Johor will only use the Johor people's money.)

Other than that, Johor remains as part of Malaysia.

This will see Johor finally get to rapidly develop.

I feel happy for Johoreans, and if Johor becomes more attractive than Singapore, I may even relocate to Johor next time. 😎

Please, PAP - lease Johor land/sea/air for 999 year from the Sultan and build a wall around JB

Suddenly, there is:

- More space to build HDBs

- More space to farm! No more begging bowl

- Can build newer ports, additional airspace.

- Can expand rain water facilities in addition

If PAP really has so called foresight, they will do this than sit on their a$$ and kpkb about how Putin/Ukraine war/Martians ban chicken export etc.,.

But knowing PAP they will never do - because they don't have ball$
Siao eh, got so much land still build stupid HDB? Everyone can afford to stay landed.

Long term it is a win win for both sides.
Short term there will be hell to pay.

The Malaysian Federation isn’t go to stand by and watch its cash cow leave. It will be grossly destabilizing, and the Sabah and Sarawak will be watching on with great interest.

The Indonesians may not sit idly by and allow the eventual formation of a powerhouse that will eventually threaten its overall dominance in the region.

Issues with Johor being a monarchy can be worked around. The Sultan is very progressive compared to the other heads of state. Singapore will almost certainly have to concede Republic status and become a constitutional monarchy like the United Kingdom, with the Johor Royals as symbolic royalty.

In exchange SG get access to natural resources she could only dream of before. Labour workforce, expansion room.

Johor gets access to the international markets formerly closed off due to political and religious disruptions. The SGD would probably become the de-facto joint currency.

Forest City might actually survive.

If Johor become independent then no Petronas Liao. Get petrol from Singapore. Lol…
IMHO.
If Johor becomes independent, they will likely outsource everything to SG.
Johor will have enough land to develop green energy like solar - no need petrol.

Federation is like United States of America

each state retains their own governance and policies
:(
Only federal level policies apply to all states
:(

We have two states lor Singapore and Johor. Call the United States of Singapura.

There is no upside for sg. No matter how progressive the sultan, they all have bumi mindset entrenched…
