Just thought i'd share my upgrade process for my HP dv6 6003tx which came with a useless Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 (2.4 GHz).

1) Bought an Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 card from ebay for just US$15!

2) Downloaded and flashed an unlocked bios from the internet.

3) Swapped the cards

Now i'm enjoying 2.4GHz and 5 GHz to use with my Asus RT AC-66U!=:p

Using the old network card, the best download i could get was between 65-69 mbps.

Now i can get this speed on my Singnet 100mbps fibre plan with the new wireless card

Coincidentally I swapped my notebook wireless card to the same exact model as yours :s13:

Enjoying alot faster speeds as well. Playing games on my laptop has way lesser latency than before and not so much stuttering.

First check if your current card is dualband otherwise upgrade would be in vain.
Even if you have a full card you can buy a converter.

Asus UL30VT should be using a half height Atheros AR9285. Only 2.4GHz up to 150mbps.

You should definitely upgrade!

Using M1 200Mbps Fibre and DIR-655 router, this is what I'm getting with the current Atheros Ar9285 :(

It's not, as stated here

But it's single antenna as shown in the video

I get what you mean, they cheaped out on the Wifi Card and Antenna.
The lousy Azurewave has only 1 antenna U.FL connector.
So I see a big project, you probably have to get another laptop wifi antenna dismantle the screen screw the antenna in and replace the card.
The rest shouldn't be an issue.

That is why I say you can never judge how good a brand is by the brand name, when you will take the laptop apart and see the parts they use then you know...

More like this type
$(KGrHqZ,!p!F!Q,NZB06BQN-mrFd-g~~60_12.JPG

Can you see the difference?
The type I linked can be attached to the LED Display Panel via screws. The shape has a holding structure that fits the LED Panel.
The one you linked doesn't.
I opened up my laptops before and all were using this type.
In all the designs I have seen the antenna were mounted on top on the LED Panel using screws.
My acer laptop antenna doesn't look like the asus type I have posted.
I am not sure if antenna designs differ from OEM to OEM.

I opened mine up and the antenna end wasn't attached to the screen, but pasted to the chassis
