I opened yesterday and immediately I got CITIGOLD account number in my citibank app

the RM told me if I deposit below 250K, I can only get 3.8%

maybe you can try your luck and let us know ?

early closure 50$ btw (below 6 months)
I din know citigold is an account with account number? Citigold is a status from what I understand. I am a citigold customer, but my account is Citi first wealth account.
On your app left corner, is there a “citigold benefit”? If yes, this is a loop hole and I think citi should remove the clause of having $250,000 to start and maintain citigold relationship.

The whole clause is “The minimum amount of AUM required to start and maintain a Citigold relationship is S$250,000. A monthly account service fee of S$15 will apply if your Total Relationship Balance does not meet the minimum requirement of S$15,000.”

My point is one still have to deposit $250,000 within the period of time given (3 month I think), otherwise he/she will be stripped off the citigold customer status. Monthly Account service fee is secondary. If no $250,000 how to enjoy the interest? Then when one decided to abandon the Citi account after realising that he/she cannot enjoy the preferred time deposit rate, still wanna keep $15,000 minimum requirement?
I see, thank you for the info

I thought once your FD is approved, then it is settled, the only question is that you need to keep 15K for next 6 months or you can close and pay 50$

I dont mind to lose the citigold privilege after FD is matured haha

Actually if u happen to open a fixed deposit with $15k or above at 3.8%, the TRB is considered met so u dun have to deposit another $15k just to avoid the $15.

yes, this is also what the RM informed me, but then the FD only for 3 months, so upon maturity if you plan to put it somewhere else, there will 3 months maintenance fee x 15$ which is 45$ or you can close and pay 50$

so yeah.. maybe putting in only 15k doesnt make sense, because interest will be only around 142.5 and if you close the account upon maturity, effective interest rate only about 2.4% (hope my calculation is correct)

Oh ok. Ya. My 3.9% 6 months maturing this month and yes you r right, close and move on. They r interested in new fund only.
Same here my 3.9% also maturing this month, no point keeping $15K in account.
Huat! You can use the interest to go travel.

In sg. Fed rate up ...we go the other way
One can always divert one’s funds to invest safely in the US market for their high FD rates with high deposit insurance of up to US$250k. The only risk involved is the exchange rate which at the right time may also be in your favour.

Foreign currency FD always have this issue so the exchange rate at the time you convert to and fro is crucial. I learnt my lesson with MYR FD years ago. So ppl want to play USD FD take note, unless you don't want to convert back to SGD it is ok but if you intend to convert back see your luck so please factor this unknown in your plan when you decide to go for non-SGD FD

Can take a look at past USD - SGD to see if it is in SGD or USD favor. All I know is last time 1 SGD can change USD 1.6-1.8 now about 1.3. Why I know is I have a PayPal USD and was "forced" by them to keep to below 5K as per MAS guidelines. I rugi so much to convert and withdraw back to bank to keep to below 5K !!!!
