Amazing how S Korea can do it without a million dollar sports minister taking charge.

Edwin Tong should do better for Singaporea.

as for japan they upped their tempo against saudi... japan no.14 really dangerous... saudi totally no answer on how to contain him... one goal one assist for him~~:o

thailand didn't win any of the games in the final round of AFC qualifiers for WC 2002 and 2018

2002 tournament - out of the 8 games, drawn 4 lost 4
2018 tournament - out of the 10 games, drawn 2 lost 8

vietnam indeed on their debut appearance in the final round of qualifying in AFC...won 1 and lost 7 of the 8 games played thus far.

Group B is set for nail biting finishing as 4 points separate 1st place Saudis from 3rd place Australia

and for the next 2 matchdays (24 and 29 March), Australia looks like to have to win their last 2 games to haul their way into Qatar 2022 automatically.

During the 1st rounds of matches, Australia could only draw goal-less at home to Saudis and lost away to Japan.

24 March
Australia home to Japan
China home to Saudis

29 March
Japan home to Vietnam
Saudi Arabia home to Australia

In event of points being equal in the group table, the next few tie breaker conditions will be in this order

goal difference
goal scored
H2H between the 2 sides
goal difference in matches between the 2 sides
goal scored in matches between the 2 sides.
Away goals scored
fair play criteria (yellow or red cards)
draw lots by FIFA

think goal difference will decide the 2 auto-qualifiers from Grp B

and whoever finish 3rd in Grp B will start as favourite for the AFC playoff tie agst 3rd place of Grp A (one-off) to earn the right to playoff agst the 5th place team from Conmebol (at the moment is Peru).

Bolivia at best need a giant miracle to get into 5th place with 2 games left and far poorer goal difference (minus 12)

AFC's opponent for the inter-continental playoff from Conmebol may well come down to goal difference.

From 4th place Uruguay right down to 7th place Colombia is like ranging from -1 to -4.

For Colombia, it's now or never as they need to get 6 pts out of 6
Home to Bolivia before away to Venezuela

Chile have to play the 2 former world champs, Brazil and Uruguay (direct qualification rival) in their last 2 games.
Peru have to play Uruguay and Paraguay.

Uruguay at one point looks to be in deep trouble with the coach sacking and losses.
a couple of wins later, they are back in contention with things very much in their own hands.

But go world cup kena thrashed by amdk European nations.
Have some perspective lah...

Vietnam used to be like the dude who clocked 20 mins for 2.4km run, but clocked 9:45 mins.

Is like barely hit ippt gold timing but a big improvement from when they were ippt failure.

Saudis didn't really ride on the debut jackpot tt they hit when they first qualify for USA 1994 (reach last 16 on the debut).

By and large they have regularly reach the tournament but when actual matchplay start, somehow just flatter to deceive.

Saudi main shortcoming is that their players prefer to play at home or nearby gulf states, rather than to try their luck developing their career in Europe.

Kind of like the situation with Chinese players, except that Chinese players want but rarely venture to Europe leagues due to their relatively low fifa ranking.

Saudi league itself pays well
Not much incentive for them to try to play overseas.

europe wise, think last time got one chap playing for Wolves (Sami el Jabber) for short spell
and a few who join La Liga reserves.

thats abt it for the Saudis.

China players currently (not including the naturalised bunch) only Wu Lei is playing in La Liga for Espanyol.

Other than pretty much contented to play in CSL.
Don't really even hear of China players venturing to even other on-par Asian leagues.

becos of the non-EU status of Saudis/China, very few European clubs would want to pick up the tab to sign to occupy the non-EU players spot in the team.
