Another gloomy Monday!
The whole team (manager/players) needs to share the blame collectively.
Mourinho started with an attacking lineup, with Mata/Lingard/Martial/LKK up front. I can understand why didn't he start with Sanchez as he played a full 180 mins during the international week and long journey back from Chile to England. But right from the start, there is no sense of urgency in our play, so this is down to the players mentality. The sense of urgency only started from 70mins onwards.
But the positions, movement, brand of football is mediocre, the tactics is very rigid with minimal pressing. Very very slow in build up, and very very predictable play. So this is down to Mourinho.
Team needs to know that once you are playing at Manchester United, the target is to win every game, let alone playing at OT! You attack from the start! I'm sure most of us would feel better if we attack well, with more than 20 shots on goal, on to denied by GK, post, bar, goal line clearance. At least we know this is just one of those off-day or unlucky day.
Spending more money on players is inevitable but even if give Mourinho another 300 million to buy defenders and yet your attackers are not scoring goals, for what? If you keep your opponents on the back foot for 70-80% of the game, why worry about the defense? And if Mourinho is going to buy players to keep on bench, I rather he buy those free transfer players like Grant. No point you spend 50 million on Fred and keep him on the bench.
