REUTERS: Manchester United have donated medical equipment and provided vehicles for courier operations to support the National Health Service (NHS) in their battle against the coronavirus pandemic, the Premier League club said on Thursday (Apr 9).

The club said it would also accommodate further requests from the NHS for use of the facilities at their stadium Old Trafford, which has been placed on a reserve list as a temporary blood donation centre.

"A fleet of 16 vehicles has been put on standby with volunteer drivers available to support NHS courier operations in the area," United said in a statement.

"United has also donated medical equipment and consumables to the Salford Royal, including protective equipment, dressings and other club medical supplies.

"The club is encouraging its staff to volunteer for the NHS or in their local communities during the pandemic. Staff will continue to be paid in full if volunteer work takes place during working hours."

United players had previously agreed to donate 30per cent of their wages to local hospitals and health services and also collaborated with players from other teams to set up a fund to raise money for NHS charities.

Alex Ferguson, the most successful manager in the club's history, said he was "delighted" that the NHS was being recognised, having been under their care in 2018 when he underwent emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

"I'm delighted we are now recognising the importance of our NHS – as I experienced two years ago after they saved my life," Ferguson said.

"The response to this pandemic has been magnificent and has made me proud of the way the club and the British people have rallied round to help. Well done."

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will sanction the sale of Harry Kane for a world-record fee of £200m due to financial worries and exasperation with the player for going off-message during the coronavirus crisis.#mulive [mail]

Lol.. Kane looking for a pay increase at Spurs?

at most pay 80m for him. if real madrid can top our offer, let him go to real madrid then.

paying 200m is a ripoff. if they continue to waste time eventually kane will just leave on free transfer. up to them lor.

Nah, probably his agent window shopping for him now. Or levy with his tactics again. Don’t think United want to replace French Pele with him. But it will be awesome if they did 😂

Borussia Dortmund were interested in including Greenwood in a deal for Jadon Sancho last summer. #mufc had absolutely no intention of discussing Greenwood and he will not be involved in any further talks #mulive [espn]

How about Utd give $$ + Lingardinesta and Tiki Taka Legend for Sancho? Maybe can throw in Jones as a soft comfort free gift 😂
