The He-Man Masters of the Universe live-action film has found a new home at Amazon after departing from Netflix, in a new deal between Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films. Bumblebee director Travis Knight serves as director, and Chris Butler (Kubo and the Two Strings) will pen the screenplay.

Netflix previously spent US$30 million on development with an estimated budget of US$170 million before axing the project, with Kyle Allen previously set to star. While it’s unclear if Amazon will keep to existing casting decisions, a definitive announcement could mean an imminent cast reveal.

The film does have an official synopsis:

Masters of the Universe introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword — the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!

Masters of the Universe is set to land in cinemas on 5 June 2026.

Would the live action also features bulky muscle men in skimpy clothes?
