Somewhat similar, ASUS RT-AC88U provides only 1x 5GHz WiFi whereas AC5300 provides 2x 5GHz WiFi.

Hmm think of getting ac88u. Single 5ghz can already. Only need coverage . Was using ac87u before . Placed the ac87u at living room and go to kitchen toilet close door still can get 2 to 3 bar on 5ghz. Hope this ac88u will be better coverage then ac87u.

Your hoot or just snapping the picture and upload? ;)

RMerlin should be releasing his firmware for the ASUS RT-AC88U soon.

If you managed to get hold of RMerlin's firmware and are using it, feel free to PM me for the stock shipping firmware (3.0.0.4.380.664) if you want to revert back. ASUS support haven't update their servers as yet.

Steps to check the AC88U router temps (on ASUS stock firmware)

1). Enable telnet access and telnet in (using putty for example)
2). Type cat /proc/dmu/temperature for BCM 47094 SoC
3). Type wl -i eth1 phy_tempsense for 2.4GHz WiFi 4366
4). Type wl -i eth2 phy_tempsense for 5GHz WiFi 4366

Enjoy and feel free to feedback your AC88 experiences if it's your hoots ^^

just an update,

RMerlin has mirrored stock firmwares for several routers, including ac88u initial firmware releases from the asus's download server, despite the link is still not up on support website.
