Asus,
I know you are trying hard to fix things, but the #2 complaint (#1 being stability/usability) on here or anywhere is backing up and restore of settings, if davemishsr found a solution (that seems difficult to me and most others) could you please implement this ?

this way we all do not have to reconfigure from scratch after just about every firmware upgrade.

I notice you are on an alfa of merlin's or ? is so where do I download it please?

I will PM you a link once I upload it to my mediafire account. Patience. Also very pressed for time now. Will answer what I can.

I had an ios issue this morning and had to shut wifi off then on on merlin's posted
RT-AC87U_378.54_2

Yea but there is no driver change in 378.55_alpha1. Asus hasn't posted GPL for the 378.6xxx firmware so Merlin can't update the drivers. The only change is the new login GUI and the web-based GUI really flies right along now! Yea!

Just a note: When you tell people you are running 100%, please advise them that you are rebooting automatically every night also, I believe that is the only reason why you are running 100% and not stating that is giving people false hope (as Asus does not include a feature, though your way seems near simple, some will still not be able to do it). Please no harm, but you should be stating this.

No harm taken. I have repeatedly mentioned that, once just yesterday. Please check my posting history. I know have a text file setup with a "canned" response. I do this as a courtesy. With all due respect, if anyone has an issue with what I may or may not post then they are free to ignore me and say I am an ignoramus (at which point that individual lands in my ignore list).

Also THANK YOU for posting that requested info, I am going to try.

OK. Good luck.

edit1: there is no way near enough info on the backup / restore utility for me, I do not know much about linux nor does most buyers of these type of routers. Something like your reboot info please would work perfectly.

Unzip the latest version and unzip it. The file you seek is QuickStart-Win-r(version #).txt will tell you everything. Besides, I am an end user, no expert at all, much like yourself.

I am simply trying to be helpful and informative. You keep criticizing my posting style and quite honestly is is getting repetitive and I do not appreciate it. It will be much easier for me to withhold my resources and not be aggravated. Or you can can simply ask for clarification with more tact and diplomacy.

EDIT2 :
I just copied and pasted line by line your reboot script !!THANK YOU!!
I did change the time for me to 4:15 as I am usually using it at 5:15.

I am very glad to hear that it is working for you! :)

EDIT: That script is Merlin's and not mine. I am simply just not that smart.

I am trying to duplicate your settings, wifi and ? do you use beamforming for either 2.4 or 5GHz?

Absolutely no beamforming! Ever! Got to get ready to work. Will check back tomorrow.

Dude,

You are so welcome. I really do hope that this helps. If nothing else you should now have access to an information database rivaled only by the Library of Congress! :)

Seriously, best of luck bro! Keep me posted how you make out, eh?

Oh wow. After reading the last 6 pages, I am really in doubt should I be using the 87U when I sign-up with M1 in 2 month's time.

One of my question, as I saw some effected speed are over 5Ghz speed, does trouble of speed effect over Lan cable connection?

Wired performance is not affected. It affects users with Samsung and apple devices. If u can take the random disconnection when the mobile devices are sleeping, then ac87u is definitely worth it.

If u can't, and u think wireless performance is important, go for ac3200. I moved from ac87u to ac3200, and I nv regretted..

I have a similar issue, I upgraded to unlimited fibre, but the I am able to only get 100+ mbps on any devices. On my PC which has a 500mbps powerline I didnt even see any improvement in the upload/download speed.

Note: I also named both 2.4ghz & 5ghz the same name on my network, is that advisable?

Anyone able to advise?

Thanks

Hi bliz1984,

it is not advisable to name both network the same. you should name it "example" 2.4ghz / 5ghz.

hope this helps.

I also subcribed to 500Mpbs on singtel and i'm only getting 147Mbps up and 117Mbps down.

Hi Aloysius,

first, you might want to check out your wireless connection rate. secondly, i myself also encounter this issue. what i did to solve the issue is try a different server and also at different timing. also do note that your wireless channel is not on the same channel as your neighbours'.

you might want to refer to this post, regarding the issue i faced.

Thank you for clarifying. AC3200 is quite costly, though it looks like a battleship :s13:.

My PC and TV will probably will be wired. But other members in my house will probably complaint though. Ha.

Guess I will target at the 68U at the moment then.

Hi Aloysius and bliz1984,

I know this thread has many pages- it's crazy. But if you have time... read through every page and there are many tips along the way that helps. Maybe someone can compile the tips. :)

You can try these tips first:
Some Tips for Asus RT-AC87U

Hope that helps.

If you're going with the AC68x platform then get the AC68P. It has a better cpu than the U/R variants.

Unlikely....

I am beginning to think I have made a mistake in going with the 4x4 Wave 2 technology. We are now a year out from the ac87u's rollout for all intents and purposes. If this beta does not enable MU-MIMO then it is obvious that it won't be soon.

I just got a call from an online retailer that I placed a pre-order with for the EA-AC87. Well, after almost two months on backorder they called me to say that they still do not have it in stock, that they won't have it in the near future and that at this point they are unable to determine when (DFM: if ever?) the EA-AC87 might be available. While they were not requiring me to cancel the back-order they asked 3 times before I acquiesced and cancelled.
