People who have proven biz development experience are valuable coz they are more than just a sales man. They are like a mini-entrepreneur who can spot markets and niches and strategize to break into that market and they are usually good salesman. But good salesman might not necessarily be good business development executive.
Good salesman are the one you depend on to maintain your existing market and also help the biz devt guy foray into new markets.
