AEFIs

An adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) is any untoward medical occurrence which follows immunisation. AEFIs are not necessarily caused by the vaccine - they can be related to the vaccine itself, to the vaccination process (stress related reactions) or can occur independently from vaccination (coincidental). The datasets include cases reported through both the NPRA Reporting System and MySejahtera.

Disclaimers:

  • The data are unverified (i.e. self-declared) reports of adverse events, both minor and serious, that occur after immunisation.
  • The number of reports alone cannot used to reach conclusions about the existence, severity, frequency, or rates of AEFIs associated with vaccines.
  • Reported events are not always proven to have a causal relationship with the vaccine. Establishing causality requires additional investigation. Serious AEFI reports are always followed-up and investigated thoroughly for better understanding of the circumstances. However, our public data does not generally change based on information obtained from the investigation process (i.e. we do not reduce AEFI counts after the fact).
  • The NPRA and MOH always consider the complexities mentioned above, in addition to various other factors, when analysing and monitoring vaccine safety.

With the number of severe Covid-19 cases among vaccinated people increasing in Malaysia, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has called on all to take booster shots.

He said the effectiveness of vaccines will start to wane after a few months, with the Sinovac vaccine being the quickest to lose its effectiveness.

He explained that the faster waning period is the reason why the interval for Sinovac booster shots is three months, compared with six months for Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

In his tweet, Mr Khairy shared a graph showing data for Covid-19 admissions in Hospital Sungai Buloh in the state of Selangor.

It revealed that most of Category 4 and 5 patients are Sinovac recipients.

The last epidemiology week (week 45) saw 165 Sinovac recipients admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh as Category 4 and 5 patients.

Both categories refer to seriously ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Patients under Category 4 require oxygen assistance while those under Category 5 need to be ventilated.

In comparison, 24 were Pfizer recipients while seven had taken the AstraZeneca vaccine

Huh

bribery leh, Shitnovac so unethical, like to bribe like Chao AMDK Pfizer, u ok with that?

:s13:

So both Sinovac and Pfizer are unethical. I guess that's why some are still holding out against getting vaccinated. Nevertheless, Singapore has one of the highest vaccination rate in the world.

Yet...

“The committee has reviewed the data and we have decided to use the Sinovac for senior citizens. Based on the Brazil trials the secondary efficacy against moderate and severe cases of Covid-19 for the Sinovac vaccine was 83.7 per cent for moderate cases and 100 per cent for severe cases,’’ he said during a joint press conference with Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba this afternoon.

Yeah I am. He was talking about vaccines (Sinovac being tested) and I replied to him on the same point (also on vaccines telling him actually all countries except only Turkey that tried Sinovac slammed it).

You are the only one among the three of us who veered out of vaccines to JJWW about other things.
My bad. I missed your reply to him

The effectiveness of all vaccines wane, with Sinovac the quickest. No doubt having some protection is better than none, it should not turn into a case where people are lured into a false sense of security with a less effective vaccine.

Well we all know there are no angels in this game.

There are only trade offs for each choice that is made.

That's why we need to re-verify overseas data sets with what we have seen locally, or conduct our own local trials if data / evidence is not clear enough for recommendation on a risk / benefit analysis.

Those who didn't suffer side effects that turned chronic like in my case (heart arrhythmia) should continue with mRNA vaccination.

Those are the lucky ones.

Don't worry, we have the MSM trumpeting and promoting mRNA options day in and out. We even have Dr Leong coming out recently to say SSS is the lowest in the pack, we have POFMA instruments on hand for any false information, what more can you ask for? :o

The sense of security becomes "false" and deadly when breakthroughs happen despite boosters and when we only rely on vaccines as the sole strategy and not relook into therapeutics as a buffer..

Over-reliance on a single strategy/option is the real threat that will cost the lives and livelihoods of Singaporeans.

This sort of news is very damaging to China and its vaccines companies. They must have hated this guy like hell. There will be no hope for him to visit China anytime soon; maybe not even Hong Kong. How come countries such as Chile, Argentina that use lots of Sinovac keep mum about this. They are still showing very good results. Are they quietly shifted over to other brands? Brazil has shifted; 70% of their vaccines are now either Pfizer or AZ.
