I have a very stupid question. Just plugged an additional harddrive into my 213. The harddisk has existing data and files on it. is there any way for me to access the existing files on the harddisk?

the storage manager says that the harddisk is not initialised, am scared to do anything in case it wipes all the existing data...

Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

Has anyone upgraded to the latest FW 4.3? Stable?

Anyone using the Photo Station Uploader to upload their photos?
Does it resolve of the issue of high cpu load on the synology NAS when trying to generate thumbnails?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, indexing and thumbnail generation off loaded to PC. Much faster.

those who use video station better dont upgrade ur DSM.

Quote from Synology support staff:

"This is not a bug, but a change made to DSM: due to codec licensing issues, DTS transcoding is no longer supported in Video Station (and DS video)."

Do you have any 3rd party packages such as Transmission installed?

No 3rd party package.

Btw, any reason you are using Transmission and not download station?
I use to have both in the NAS but I couldn't see any difference in performance... so decided to uninstall Transmission.
Anyway, I read that Download Station uses Transmission (2.42) under the hood.

I'm currently planning to buy a NAS.
Is it better to buy DS412+ over DS413?

Ran into my first issue on DSM4.3 today...

Problem:
Could not login to PhpMyAdmin even though the id/password was correct.

Solution:
Had to reset MySQL database password to default.

Actually , it wasn't too bad.
Luckily, the database and user account remains intact.

I only had to figure out what happen and then find out how to reset the password.

Comex 2013 DS213J

What is the difference between DS213 & DS213J? Looking at the price from PC show 2013 DS213J is $269. Comex 2013 also $269. Like no depreciate at all.. Looking for better deal.
