Is it cheaper to get the HDDs yourself instead of purchasing as a bundle?

Normally, no. The retailers will typically give some slight discounts when customers purchase as a bundle.

Of course, if you're camping on Amazon or other online merchants for discounts, then it'll be a different thing altogether.

Thinking of getting a DS414 with 2x 2TB drives. Do you recommend using it with a SHR or plainly normal drives? Is there any advantages and disadvantages

My previous ds212j with 256mb memory can stream 1080p without issue. If write speed of 80mb/s is fine for you, ds414j is ok.

Is the DS414J sufficient? Is the amount of ram important is mainly use for video streaming?

Hi all

I'm new to NAS, just bought a DS414 for home use.
Have some queries and hope to get some advise here.

I have 4 X 3T hard disk.
Should I install SHR or RAID 5?
If SHR, am I able to transfer my back up to other brand of NAS?

I intend to divide the space to 3 individual user (2T each) and a space for public sharing (for 3 of us, 3T).

1. Should I create user first then allocate them certain space? So will be only one volume.
2. Or should I divide it to 4 volumes? And allocate each volume for each one?
3. Can the volume be deleted in future?

Is there any Synology workshop that i can attend?
Thank you!
