Hello to ALL EDMers , first and foremost just want to say a big Hi to all of you ( my first post ever!) !

This forum has been keeping me entertained for the past several years and i would like to say a big thank you to all of you for that.

Unfortunately i am currently facing a dilemma so i have no choice but to hear your opinions from my first ever post :(

Background story :

- my son is currently involved with this particular religious organisation ( Buddhist ) which is a positive thing imo but recently the stories that i am getting from him is they seem to be more keen in raising money.

-e.g they have to pay a certain fee ( not huge amounts but few hundred bucks) for certain online Buddhist classes. I dont mind paying it for him but is that how should be? my train of thoughts are such religious classes are mostly free and if you want to make a contribution willingly its up to you and not fixed

-they constantly encourage everyone in the group to bring in/introduce new members to spread the teachings ( still fine by me and i still support it). Was actually planning to attend spend some time with him in this particular June event till i heard there if my son introduce a NEW paying member (new member would actually have to pay 6x of the actual June classes fees) , my sons fee would be waived.

Is that normal ? i am just getting lots of bad vibes from this whole thing. Maybe i am just an old man and i lost touch with how the youngsters think these days.

Cheers

theres no right or wrong ONLY whether u feel is ok or not. if its not ok u put a stop to it so simple. think of yrself as a horse rider & the other things (like ur son & his religion) as the horse. if u dont hold the reins and control it, the horse will end up taking u for a ride. alot of things are willing buyer willing seller one. if ur not willing then ppl cannot do anything to u. i think u can also teach yr son independence by asking him to pay for the classes out of his own pocket money rather than pay for him. when he feels the pinch, he will question the whole thing. this is a more effective consequence.

I totally agree with you on this willing buy willing seller thing. But e.g in this case if he attended the class by himself, he would just have to pay $350 but on the other hand if i was the new paying member i would have to pay almost 2+k and his fee would be waived.

I can tell you straight up this whole thing isnt about the 2k+ but the justification behind this payment process. We are still attending the same exact class + 1 more set of refreshments for me.

Just feels so wierd ... maybe my mindset too boomer for such things these days. :(

I recently asked my friends while we were discussing religion and the people practicing them. First of all, all religion are good and they teach people good. Only those practicing it with hidden agenda spoils the name.
anyway, I asked:
Assuming there’s only 1 religion in this world eg, Buddhism. Then all male are monk and female are nun on this planet. Then there won’t be anyone left to reproduce the next generation. Ultimately, human will be extinct as monk and nun cannot reproduce. How ah?

i teach you one thing which seen and heard in many movies.

佛祖无所不在。心中有佛,有心就好。钱乃身外物,生不带来,死不带去。佛不因你没钱而舍弃你。you see the guy sit under tree got enlightenment become buddha. he got specially go take course or pay for courses? LOL.

if you really very concern then just contact Singapore 佛教总会。see if they aware of all these things.

http://www.buddhist.org.sg/
last time singapore also got monk scam then they drive mercedes and wear rolex ok.
