All these banging, knocking and dragging sound has been tormenting me since Oct 2019. Went into depression and anxiety that need medications and treatments. Lost interest in everything as you are now. Marriage has went into red light cos of this. Hope this evil neighbour can go to hell soonest! Tried everything except CDRT. No no no.. no one can help. We have to be strong enough to help ourselves. To move house can be a good option?! Depends...
The evil nasty neighbour is my upstair, next door, not the one directly my upstair. Since your upper unit has not many furnitures, could be your upper next door too!
Anyway, it is definitely a mental torture!
Please stay strong!

Hello everybody, I would like to share my experiences about my noisy upstair neighbour too. Now I can totally understand how it feels like to have such a douchebag neighbour. For the past 18 months since moving into new flat, everyday can hear their kids or parents running, stomping, dropping heavy objects, dragging furnitures etc. They can run/stomp/drop things for hours throughout the day. So loud that even the walls will vibrate. Called HDB to tell them during Circuit breaker period last year, but neighbour replied in group chat saying 'its their house and their kid is allowed to run in his own house'. Wow unbelievable parents with this type of mentality with disregards to their neighbours. We all know the distress all these loud sounds cause so I will not elaborate further.

Worst still, they are using platform bed in their master bedroom. And for months almost every single morning me and my wife will be awaken abruptly by the platform sound when they step up or down. Even in ungodly hours (1am, 3am, 4am, 6am etc) our sleep had been interrupted by the sounds of their platform. Having our sleep interrupted is the worst form of noise disturbance. And to make things worst, this pair of parents are not slim, so you can imagine the weight of their feet when they step down of the platform. I wish HDB will BAN all forms of platforms because the type of sound it cause is unbelievably loud and disturbing.

The platform sound was so bad when their kid jumped on it last year that we had to call the police at 5.30am in the morning because we thought some fight or something had happened in their room. But as usual, the police just stood outside their home to observe and could not do anything.

We finally knew it was a platform bed because the parents came to talk to us after we called HDB a second time. But as we all know, all talk is futile. Over the past few months all these sounds continue to happen but has toned down considerably but everyday and morning we will still be disturbed and awaken by their platform sounds, running etc. All these have already created a 'phobia' for us. I even downloaded an app called Calm to help me stay relax and take my thoughts off those disturbing sounds and my neighbours' face.

In conclusion, I just hope all those affected by noisy neighbours to be strong, stay positive as much as you can. Go out and socialise with friends etc. Because I know how tormenting it can be and try not to dwell so much on it because it will really affect your health. Only those who experience it will know the pain.

HDB, MP, POLICE, CDRT, MEDIATION I think all these are just 'for show' by the authorities. Nobody can really help us solve the issues of noisy neighbours. Just look at all the examples mentioned in this thread. People say new HDB is thin and fabricated and thus transmit sounds easily, I agree on this, but come on, how about kids running? dragging furnitures, dropping things, banging? Are these not caused by the inconsideration of human beings?

After months of suffering, me and my wife realise the only solution is to move out. Because people will not change their habits and lifestyle for others. So I wish everybody here work hard, earn more money and move to better housing. Best is move to bungalow haha. We still have 3 full years till MOP.

My pc speakers must always play rumbling thunderstorm sound, I sleep with earphones plugged in playing same bloody sound. And I still get JOLT AWAKE by random sudden knocking dragging.

Upstairs really need their brains hammer out.
Cannot snap.

Why not cdrt? I am putting a recorder to record all the events. The cdrt must have noise more than nea standard noise level only consider a fault or the judge will determine even low noise, but so obviously doing it on purpose to disturb others consider a guilty? I heard last time STE test and measurement BU got provide services to put up sensor to measure the wave form and generate the report for cdrt, cost around 2k$, worth it if can solve the problem. But now i not sure what other company got provide this kind of services.

watched this.
essentially nothing much because no one (including them) cannot (or dont want) to do anything.
unless u do something dramatic, and i am sure someone would. imagine u are in constant nightmare, something nasty could happen - but sad thing is nobody cares... because it doesnt affect them.

Just consider ourselves unlucky to be staying below noisy neighbors. This morning 7am sleep got interrupted by upstairs platform bed. Just 1 or 2 of the sound is enough to wake us up. How is it possible to record the sound or complain to HdB? What can the authorities do with just a few loud sounds? Then have to go through all the hassle to mediate and complain about stubborn and selfish neighbor. There is no law to protect us. Some people experience it at 1am, 2am, 3am etc, which hdb officer can come and witness it for us? Nobody will understand what we are going through. Talk to noisy neighbor? All they do is give excuses. Last time got 1 fierce ah lian aunty stay my block, everytime someone drill or hammer after working hours or weekends she will scold them vulgarities and it will stop immediately. She can solve the problem herself no need call police or complain hdb. Maybe we need to be like her haha. I really wish everybody well here because I understand your pain and suffering…..

Only solution is CDRT, you need to record the noise with a recorder and a sound level meter to measure the loudness, a good meter readings will include your exposure to sound level.
With Above steps is only to tell the judge what sort of noise it is and the sound level. But it cannot pin to the source of noise location, whether from your above, below, left or right neighbours. It is all described by you only. Best you can get a 3rd party as your witness too. Your neighbours etc to be your witness for your case.
Do remember you are living in an apartment, there are bound to have some noises like toilet flushing etc.
Noise is something subject to individuals, you may not able to tolerance a certain frequencies but not the same to another person.
Learn to accept the noise, try to open up the windows to disperse the noise.
Since you have spoken to your neighbours about your concern and they just ignored your words, you can always hit back the noise at them whenever they are noisy.

It depends abit on the layout of your block. Some people from my block can hear stomping from 2 levels above. For my case, only my living room is connected to my next door neighbour, we can hear their footsteps sometimes when they run to open their door when we are at the living room area. In the beginning we thought it was from upstairs but not. But the running, stomping sounds in my bedrooms and kitchen are from my direct upstairs neighbour. It is very obvious to me because it is like just above your head on your ceiling. After some time, you should be able to tell whether it is from the house directly above you.
