under gravel very troublesome in maintenance and will tire you out
don't get it :o

I have tried, overhead sump, hang on back, sponge, canister and internal filter.

Then I heard of UGF that needs minimum maintenance. Apparently is best to not touch it for years?

Not sure to go straight into 4 feet or better stick with under 3 feet as have been out of hobby for a few years. What do you guys think?

Discus with neon tetra / Cardinal tetra and Cory. Planted tank.

Tank will be 29 or 30 degree for the discus.
for discus, it needs very clean water. suggest using a sump tank. easier to maintain also. imo 3 ft tank is good enough.

never heard or seen an overhead sump before though. only seen sump below the tank.

Sorry. I mean overhead filter.

Never used sump before.

Will look into 3 feet tank.

Thanks

Just keep for fun. Don't think I am that good yet.

How many times to feed discus a day?
depends on the size plus filtration.. my uncle used to keep.. fed in morning and evenings. but he changed water every day.. smaller need to feed more I guess.

Tank prices can vary widely. 3 feet tanks can range from Gex at around $130 to a few thousands, depending on thickness, requirements for cabinets or stands. Just a few links to get you started.

Thanks for the links.

I bought a normal glass (not low iron) 3 feet tank to try out first.

As I just get back into the hobby.

If everything goes well (no discus died on me), I will upgrade to a 4 or 5 feet Crystal tank further down the road.

My juvenile discus is like a hungry ghost, can feed more than 4 times a day and generate a lot of poop.

Don't know is this normal.

haha.. think it's ok if you keep the tank clean. like I said, there are those who change the water every day

Yes I am changing water almost daily.

30 to 60% depending on how much poop.

So far the fish is ok.
check water quality also.. discus likes soft acidic water iirc.. which to me is a pain to maintain. haha. discus is one of the most fussy fishes that I know..
