Opening local Chinese bank account using Singapore passport

Hi all,

Will be going Shenzhen this weekend to attempt to open a bank account so that I can use WeChat Pay - fining it very difficult to travel and pay for things in China without WeChat Pay.

Anybody here managed to open a local Chinese bank account using a singapore passport and standard visa-free entry? Especially recently.. heard the rules tightened earlier this year and might have to try even more branches nowadays.

managed to open another Saving Acc(CIMB) in Guangdong
was relatively easy. they would ask u a few questions.

What sort of documents required? Anything else required?

just need a passport and RMB5 to deposit. ideally a china mobile line from the same province.

basically will ask why u needed the account.
and proof you travel a lot to china for work

this is for cimb account? i guess how strict it is varies across banks.

of coz i do not mean all the china bank.

CIMB from malaysia?
