I was told by a friend that AH has the lowest price for LCD/Plasma TV in town.
I was told by another friend that Gaincity has the lowest price for air-con in town.

And eventually I found both are not true. The lowest price is always from shop-hopping and bargainning.

Emm, Gaincity is really the lowest in town. You find another place, just go back to gaincity. They will offer that price one.

Plus the no question asked warranty.

No horse run man.

Yep. I think Mustafa is one of the place which sells LCD/Plasma cheap. Neighbourhood stores usually also can offer good prices too.

For AH, Courts etc, you always have to bargain down from the listed price, sometimes they can even match the neighbourhood stores and can even pay via credit card.

For my experience, Mustafa has lower listed price and can't bargain down.

Plus

Notes on buying a display set:

a - be cool

b - show up at 8:30pm on the last day

c - look around and see what is on display

d - examine the panel

e - what you see is what you get - scratches, fingerprints, everything

f - ask what is included

g - look for the chief salesman

h - wait til 8:55pm

i - ask him for the best price

j - tell him the show is ending

k - make that last sale

l - beg and grovel

m - ask him to throw in all the freebies and cables he has at the show (dvds, cables, anything)

n - write down the serial number

o - check hours of usage if you know how

p - make sure installation, delivery and stands etc are included

problems

1 - old tv and getting conned
2- all the displays are sold out
3 - saleman has packed up and gone home
4 - they had a bad day and are not budging

Some points on buying

If you are ready to buy, Go Ahead! When you snooze, you lose, so if you procastinate and the deal is gone, well, learn your lesson and get while you can.

Secondly, why in the world ask about prices AFTER you buy???

Unless you can get a price match or refund, just savour the new toy and have fun. Will you sleep better if someone told you they got a better price?

There will always be that person who got a better deal. I assure you, even when I buy, the very next day, someone can do better.

Always go to large retail shop (BD, HN, Courts etc) to view the set you want, and to compare brands and models.

Then visit neighborhood shops for better pricing offer. These neighborhood shops are usually mom-n-pop, thus they dont carry much display sets.

it's been like that for many years. these mom-n-pop were popular for home appliances.

that was the old days, bro!
Now you see y so many dealers are closing down~

Big retailers goes through service training, getting more prices competitive.
and their share market is relatively stable...

Anyway, my view on this thread is - " Ultimately, have a trusted salesman to do your job!"

I still think that the prices for those neighbourhood dealers are still better than the big retailers like Harvey Norman, Courts and BD

Service level wise I still prefer those smaller retailer like Parisilk as they are not so pushy and they won't try to push other brands. How many times I approach salesman from those big player for plasma tv they will just diss how lousy plasma tv are and try to push me towards LED/LCD even though I told them I am only looking at plasma. A waste of time imho.

To each his own, I prefer to do my homework myself rather to trust any salesman as there is always a conflict in interest. The salesman to me is just to finalise the price facilitate the sales only.

if you want product info and demo, go to large retailers.

due to tight/small operations of mom-n-pop, with lower overheads, many a times you can get better price there.

difference - no extras like interest-free loans, extended warranty etc.

Exactly! There's always differ in opinion.
What matters most is you have done your homework and the CORRECT salesman.

Another point i have to point out is the service level of big players are getting better then before, though there's still blacksheeps.
Nevertheless, it's still better then those neighbourhood dealers who are just out to earn money and don't care about AFTER SALES SERVICE which is indeed lacking.

Can't get the best of both world, i guess.

Anyway, interest free instalments + extended warranty still plays important roles in decision making to most ppl. :):)

I think the CORRECT salesman play a very big role.

Within the same retailer outlet I was already quoted 2 different prices by 2 different salespersons.

Better still, i popped into another outlet of the same retailer, the display price was already much lower than what I was offered earlier.

Really wonder what is WRONG with the retailer.

I bought my LED TV from Euromark Toa Payoh branch, their boss, David, is very friendly, helpful and approachable. Their staff at their Kallang branch are also very professional. At least they bother to answer any queries you have.

Tried Parisilk previously. Though they sound friendly, they dun seemed to be interested in getting my business. Maybe 1 LED TV is too small scale for them. They promised to call you back with the info you need. Even after you called to remind them that they have not done so. They still never get back to you with answers.
