Hi, this might be a long shot but I have some very tough questions and am hoping to see if I can find anyone who have been in a similar situations or have the right knowledge to give me an answer.

Current Situation
I am currently an in-service regular under the MDES scheme, holding a ME1-2 rank. I am close to completing my part-time degree studies from NTU EEE, and am projected to graduate with 2nd upper honours. I want to advance to a position of management within the SAF as an officer. Although there are avenues for MEs to jump to an officer-equivalent ME4, but these require long processes of internal nomination, interviews and selection.

Questions
Can I leave the SAF and sign-on once again to the MDES scheme and back to my same unit but this time, with a degree and direct ME4 position (after OCS)? If I didn't do this, is there a better way if I'm not willing to hold on to my degree while working in my current rank and position as ME1 (diploma equivalent)?

Talk to your S1 & CO. There are cases where regulars want to revocation & just reapply with SAFCC (with CO permission) for job interview. Once they pass interview, they will go OCS & revocation as officer.

It is one thing for a spec to go to OCS and convert to officer. Its another thing for a junior ME to become a senior ME.

Spec comes under WOSE while officers, well officers are officers lah but different group. So if you go from 1 group to another its straight forward.

If TS wants to go from MDES to Officer I guess its possible. But he's asking about going from junior ME to senior ME i.e. ME1 to ME4. That is within the same group.

Which could be tricky because in some ways its like saying you want to go from a 3SG to a 2WO, or you want to go from a LTA to a MAJ. Its jumping ranks within the same group.

Best is for TS to speak to his S1. Personally I think resigning and signing on again is a bad idea.

MDES is abit special case because ME3 promoted to ME4 needs to go OCS unlike 1WO to MWO. He is now a REG Spec (ME1) & can just apply for Officer (ME4) position without resigning. Once he pass the interview for officer, he just needs to recontact. If he fail interview or not selected, he will still remain in the force as ME1 without any changes in his current contract.

Hahaha, just for information... For those in army...

ME3-3 to ME4 don't need to go through OCS. They just need to attend a 2 mth course (dk if it's classified to reveal the course name). Gonna give some respect for their long service and experience eh.

ME2 or ME1 basically need to attend the same course and program as those new serviceman that just signed on.

The term for the process is call "Emplacement" though. Surprised that there's no military personnel from ARC loitering in the forums to answer these questions even though the demand for MDES regulars is relatively high.
