Exercise is good for health but over exercise can be risky and sometimes fatal. When you are above 50, need to tone down intensity of exercise. Sudden high intensity exercise or sports like badminton can cause blood clot to dislodge from blood vessels and cause heart attack and brain strokes.
No wonder bed exercises also tone down for most

half marathon and marathon always got people collapse cause they overexert themselves.. won't happen if train adequately and listen to own body
What to do.

So many instances of people showing up on Race Day at the pens and gloating to their friends - "Eh today my first run wor!"

Ask the guy who collapsed to show his prior training plans - did he do weekly long runs of up to 15-18km, at least 3-4 weeks prior to Race Day?

And did he clock a full 21km test run at least a week before?

If no, I really have no sympathy for him collapsing on Race Day.

Each year we witness cases of marathon runners collapsing, and in some instances losing their lives.

A major underlying issue is that while many Singaporeans are highly capable professionally, they often have limited understanding of the physiological demands placed on the body. Just as a vehicle requires an oil change and a thorough assessment by a skilled mechanic before a long journey, an endurance athlete should undergo proper medical evaluation before subjecting the body to prolonged physical stress.

Cholesterol alone cannot determine true cardiometabolic health. The most critical marker is insulin resistance, which is a primary driver of stroke and cardiovascular disease and typically develops quietly over many years. Identifying insulin resistance early allows the physician to intervene appropriately and also provides the opportunity to educate the patient on limiting dietary seed oils, which heighten oxidative stress and increase physiologic vulnerability during strenuous exercise.

With comprehensive assessment and proper medical guidance, many of these preventable events could be avoided.
Yea most ppl looks healthy on d surface oni. Or at least they think they r. Alot actually alr hv underlying conditions which they do not know of. Just a trigger will set it off.

Yes, just as people routinely bring their cars to a good mechanic before a long road trip, very few marathon runners take the equivalent step of having their own bodies properly evaluated by a competent doctor.

I think should make it compulsory for marathon and half marathon runners to be certified fit by sports doctors before the actual run.
