Really hope that the Fold 3 will support S-Pen input. It will then be able to finally replace both my smartphone and tablet.

This is the only thing that is holding me back from getting the Fold. More important than under-display camera or 120Hz refresh rate for the front display. Although it would be nice to get those as well :).

S-pen support is of no interest for me, my Fold 2 would prolly be the last Fold phone as I'll be lookung at rollable phones next.

Yes, rollables would be a great alternative to consider.

It's just that all the concept rollables phones I've seen on YouTube seem to extend and retract their screens very slowly. Most of the time, I would want to 'close' the phone immediately and get going when done - you can shut folding phones in less than a second. Hope rollables allow a quick manual shut as well. The last thing I want is to be waiting for my phone to s .. l ... o ... w ... l ... y retract shut.

First World problems ... lol.

Would rollables end up as thick as, or thicker than, the folds?
Based on concept phones shown on the Web, rollables are unlikely to be thicker than a closed Z Fold. Should be slimmer.

Fold 3 I thinking coming out in few months... so better to just get fold 2 or wait for fold 3?

There are still a fair amount of uncertainties with the features of the Fold 3. The main improvement I think will be the rumoured S-pen support. The Fold 3 is also rumoured to have under-display cameras and be possibly thinner and lighter but these are less useful improvements in my mind. There are even rumours that Samsung may change the aspect ratio of the screen.

If S-pen support is crucial, then you have no choice but to wait for the Fold 3. If not, it might be worthwhile to get the Fold 2 now because the current price is really attractive. The Fold 3 was launched at about S$3k, but it is now listed on certain third party retailers for about S$1,800 plus (brand new set with 1 year warranty by Samsung).

You can be sure the new Fold 3 will launch at a similar price of $3K, if not more, albeit with free gifts that you may or may not find useful.

An advantage of rollable screens is that the thickness of the phone remains the same whether the device is extended or retracted... for a foldable device, the thickness necessarily doubles due to the form factor... and for foldable devices, there is a minimum thickness of the device to consider when unfolded... right now the thinnest tablets are around 7 mm thick... I think usability will be hit if it drops anymore... folding a 7 mm phone back on itself would, optimistically with screens that can fold with much narrower fold radius, mean at best 14 mm thickness - roughly equivalent to some of the thinnest ultra portable laptops... I don't think many users like the idea of something so thick stuffed into their pockets or handbags... at least I don't... the bulge would be both unseemly and uncomfortable with tighter fitting clothing... so it remains to be seen if foldable devices become mainstream... whereas I think rollable devices might have the chance if done well cos the device might only be slightly thicker than what we're used to now for top end mobile phone flagships...

For rollable phones to have a manual snap shut mechanism in addition to the motorized shutting mechanism , I think most unlikely... snapping shut what is essentially an extremely fragile screen multiple times a day would certainly need a lot of technological breakthroughs in order for that to happen. So far we haven't been able to make unbreakable screens... the snap shutting motion is equivalent to dropping the phone on a hard surface on a micro level many times a day, which would definitely degrade the screen... one solution would be to integrate a cushioned or soft-close mechanism to absorb the shutting motion like that of your drawers but that will take space and weight and tends to get spoiled with time...

Just hoping for some breakthroughs otherwise this might just be a very niche product for the mighty rich...

From article

"...Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 due for a July 2021 launch may come with IP-rated water and dust resistance, going by “whispers from people in the know”. SamMobile cannot definitively say what level of IP rating the phones will have. However, it’s still a marked improvement from non-IP-rated resistance, since the rating is a protection code that requires rigorous testing (and money) for qualification...."

Wait 3 more months. Fold3 will be announced in August, along side with Flip3, so you can decide on which one you want to get
