My Huawei P40 Pro Plus from 2020 till now boh dai ji, very the good. If not because of the US tech ban, it already crushed Galaxy S20 Ultra and took the top spot that year.

Now I am using Honor Magic V3. I just switched on my Huawei P40 Pro Plus, the battery was still 100%, I had charged it fully in February 2025 before completely powering it off and only power it on just 6 minutes ago.
Impressive, right?

All electronic and mechanical product manufactures have a defect rate. The lower the targeted defect rate, the higher the cost per unit. Samsung accepted a much higher defect rate than others to minimise its cost per unit, so that it can sell its phones at much lower prices than iPhones.

Green lines is not samsung phone only defect. Many samsung phones affected by charging issues too, mainly the low mid range a and m series. Repair technicians said is the motherboard usb flex cable connector and usb connector loosen or crumbled.

Heng ar.. my old Pixel 6a using OLED nia.. so far no issues..
Pixel phones is battery swelling and overheating issues.

Got a few pixel 6a battery suddenly caught fire during charging or doing nothing. The article blame third party charger, however google do not bundle charger with the phone and google brand charger so expensive of course users will use third party charger.

Samsung Green Line issue

Samsung Galaxy smartphones have long been using AMOLED screens, especially the flagship phones, In the past five years, this technology has also been utilized in mid-range as well as some budget-friendly devices, but a display-related issue, known as Green Line, still appears to this date.

AMOLED panels have rapidly evolved in the mobile industry, but the green line issue has remained the same since its first appearance. To be clear, the majority of the phones are working in good shape, but this problem has become quite obvious and widely reported online. So, let’s explore this entire issue in detail.

What’s the Green line issue

It causes the disturbance in screen pixels and forms a line (or lines) that overlays the on-screen content. In most cases, these lines are spotted vertically, but in a few rare cases, some users report horizontal and, sometimes, in pink and white colors.

The majority of such cases are reported in India, but it’s also spread in other parts of the world. You can find user reports with queries “Samsung green line” on Samsung forums, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit.

Origin of the green line issue

There’s no clear explanation behind its origin, but it’s very likely a hardware or software-related problem, including the following.

Display Panel – Such phones with issues may have a faulty display or degraded longevity over time, leading to pixel disturbance, which could turn permanent.

Software update – Many users reported that the green line appeared during or after an update installation. Some of these mentioned One UI 7, the latest major OS update. Which raises the point that the issue may be caused by software and hardware incompatibility.

Temperature: Using a phone in high temperatures could lead to a display-specific problem. Scenarios such as using the phone while charging, long sessions of high-performance games and apps, video recording, and software update pressurize the processing unit and generate heat inside the device. This heat, when it’s not dissipated through the internal thermal system, reflects through the screen. Though the displays are designed to endure high temperatures, this logic cannot be applied to any defective or degraded panel.

Physical damage – Last but not least, dropping the device, applying unnecessary force, or long exposure to direct sunlight are some of the last reasons that could lead to the green line issue. However, these are accidental instead of intentional.

Samsung phones affected by the green line issue

This issue has been experienced across the flagship, foldable, as well as mid-range devices featuring AMOLED displays. These are showing single, multiple, different colored, and horizontal lines. Here are the flagship phones:

  • Galaxy Note 20 series
  • Galaxy S20 series
  • Galaxy S21 series
  • Galaxy S22 Series
  • Galaxy S23 series
  • Galaxy S24 series
  • Galaxy Z Fold series
  • Galaxy Z Flip series
  • Galaxy A-series
  • Galaxy M-series
A few people also reported this issue for the S25 series, but the number is pretty negligible.

Official Response

Samsung has acknowledged the issue and is providing a free one-time screen replacement program in India, which is likely to be similar in other countries. This activity has certain conditions that the affected device must meet, including a physical device inspection.

On the downside, this program allegedly excluded the S23, S24, and S25 series. Long-term customers, who are using their phones after the warranty, are also not getting replacements.

According to the recent information, Samsung has extended the one-time replacement program to September 2025 in India. You can learn more about the eligibility by visiting your nearest Samsung store or service center.

What’s the solution?

This problem cannot be resolved with the air (OTA) update, any specific software patch, or trick. So, getting a display replacement is the only solution. Consider yourself lucky if this problem gets resolved automatically.

Is this a Samsung-only problem?

It could be found across all AMOLED display devices from other phone makers: OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and more. However, Samsung users reported more of such issues.

Here are a few tips

Here are a few tips to manage your phone.
  • Beware of the phone’s temperature and ensure that it doesn’t remain hot for longer durations. If so, visit the service center.
  • Don’t expose the phone too much to direct sunlight, which could cause thermal damage to the display.
  • Similarly, try updating your phone overnight with the schedule feature when the phone is not in use.
  • Don’t use the phone while charging

Our take

This green line issue is not new, and Samsung smartphone users are continuously are still facing this issue in 2025. Although the number might not be big but this has become a common problem in different devices and it’s not going away.

Samsung should’ve created a task force to look into this matter and implement a fix, so it won’t appear in future releases and stop haunting users.

Ya luckily huawei no such problems too :)
I think this issue only happens on Samsung's AMOLED panel. I remember there was a period of time when Apple bought a lot of AMOLED panels from Samsung, so those Apple models also have the same issue. If I remember correctly.

There is no quick fix for it
When this issue first came up, it felt like Samsung wasn’t in a hurry to fix it, probably because screen replacements came with a pretty hefty price tag. From a business point of view, it may have made more sense for them to continue charging for repairs rather than addressing the underlying problem.

Then this issue became widespread.
Then Chinese phone brands catching up real fast and gaining market share.
Then the pressure started to build.

That's why now Samsung is now willing to replace the screen FOC (if within warranty), not because they suddenly found their conscience, it is simply because if they don't up their game, consumer will just abandon them and buy from their competitor.

Saw a video someone uses a lighter to light on the phone’s bottom.
Count themselves lucky if the phone won’t explode.
