Hello all gurus! I am deciding between 4 TVs, 43 inches (I am constrained by room size), use cases are:
  • Watching shows - HBO, Disney, Netflix etc.
  • YouTube
  • Casual gaming - PS5 and PS4
There are 4 models I am deciding between:
Overall TCL seems the most bang for buck with HDMI 2.1, however, I have read mixed reviews about it not really being HDMI 2.1, also heard its after sales sucks. On the other hand, Samsung and Prism seem to be priced very similarly, however not much reviews on the Samsung model, and Prism seems to have garnered notoriety in this forum. LG...not sure, haven't seen the model in showrooms, maybe this week I shall make a trip down.

Appreciate if any TV gurus can weigh in, thanks in advance!

IMO, .....

for support, skip TCL i.e. if the TV works, it works ... else good luck, I guess .....

for PQ & audio potential, I'd take TCL for
  • VA panel - deep blacks and high contrast, just like the Samsung
  • DLED - direct-lit normally better than the ELED edge-lit panel of Samsung
  • WCG - wide color gamut, which is likely also on Prism
  • ALLM - auto-low-latency gaming feature absent on Prism
  • eARC - better sound compared to Prism's ARC
  • Dolby Atmos - I'd pair this TCL with at least a cheap $249 Creative Stage 360 Atmos soundbar for quality virtual Atmos sound. This is missing from the other 3 options (& all 4 of these TV speakers CMI). Very often, sound is the other 50% of media enjoyment!

None of the options have the full set of HDMI 2.1 features - 4K120Hz, VRR, Dolby Vision IQ, etc. All have some of it though - ALLM, eARC, etc. ... so don't worry about it. Your PS5's 120fps games will only perform like 60fps though, unless you opt for more expensive TVs.

If you're afraid of TCL's support, then I'd take Samsung, then Prism, then LG.

Thank you very much for your insights bro, very helpful! I am not too fussy about the refresh rate, I bought my current Samsung back in 2009 for PS3, lasted me until my current PS4 lol.

My PS3, PS4 & XB1S are still alive. Only my XB360 died. Now waiting for PS5 PRO or PS6 before ditching expensive and buggy PC gaming. Will survive on my old i5-2500 + GTX 1070 PC for a while. šŸ˜…

For TV, I'm not a demanding user either. Just need one with fast response times to eliminate motion blur in playing games, watching sports and action movies/anime/donghua. My 2005 Samsung TV lasted me 13 years!

For the LG, it's the older model. The new 2023 model is available now: https://shp.ee/juw8by2

If money is not a problem, go for lg 42c2/c3. Best 42 inch gaming tv, and can be used as pc monitor

wow I might actually consider this! I tried looking around for LG TVs in showrooms, mostly are the C2 / C3, don't have the UHD ones.

@GotBetrayed - yea the LG 42" C2/C3 are gorgeous, prices also gorgeous :ROFLMAO: probably should mention that my new apartment is coming soon (~ 2 years), hence I am not very keen to spend too much on a new TV.

anyway... 2 years is alot of time, by then can buy older versions at discounted prices/display set. 42C series is your best bet, want buy and use, TV is high utility item, watch everyday, why watch inferior stuff lol.

That's kind of it, I probably watch the TV in my room once every 1 to 2 weeks or so.

No, no, no!!!!

I've just received 2 units of these that I wanted to use for my PCs.

TLDR - They will not do HDR with 4K60 or even 4:4:4 at 4K60 without HDR (since it doesn't even work). I'm going to force a Lazmall refund on both units.

Don't know if it's specific only to the 43" models but either way, I'd say avoid until otherwise proven. Note that this might be a recent change as the 43" E7H was out of stock for some time before relisting so this may apply to the current (and potentially future) batch of the display.

Aside to this, the TV is edge lit and the bleed is horrendous at 30% backlight or higher - they make my Prism Q55 & Xiaomi P1 look like OLED in comparison.
