1) Singtel recommended way to use 5Gbps -- that is with HB810.

enYBehc.png

2) But then they offer cheaper plan without the HB810. Some users may not have 10G capable device but they can still use the 5Gbps plan as an aggregated 5Gbps plan.

3) Example using Asus AImesh
Singtel XGS-PON ONR (in DB box) 10G LAN port -- Asus TUF-AX6000 in AP mode (main AImesh node) in living room (up to 2.5Gbps)

Singtel XGS-PON ONR (in DB box) 1G LAN port -- Asus RT-AX3000P AImesh mesh node in main bedroom (up to 1Gbps)

Singtel XGS-PON ONR (in DB box) 1G LAN port -- Desktop PC in study room (up to 1Gbps)

4) Example using a 2.5G switch with 10G uplink + Asus AImesh, 2.5Gbps in all rooms, combined bandwidth is up to 5Gbps

Singtel XGS-PON ONR (in DB box) 10G LAN port -- 2.5G Swtich (in DB box) 10G uplink -- room LAN ports (up tp 2.5Gbps each port)

Living room LAN port -- Asus TUF-AX6000 in AP mode (main AImesh node) in living room (up to 2.5Gbps)

Main bedroom LAN port -- Asus TUF-AX4200 AImesh mesh node in main bedroom (up to 2.5Gbps)

Study room LAN port -- Desktop PC in study room (up to 2.5Gbps)

Wonder how’s the experience for people on 5 Gbps so far. Not much reviews so far

Indeed.

So I just subscribed to SingTel 5Gbps plan and the installation date will be on 12 August 2024. Let's see how it goes.

I got the same S$49.90 per month pricing for my recontract, same as new user, through the chat with SingTel WhatsApp channel (Home Support team). The staff is very helpful and helped to improve the installation date from 28 August 2024 to 12 August 2024.

Looks SingTel is busy with new Fibre installation, but I believe many of them are for 2Gbps plan upgrade as SingTel gets rid of 1Gbps plan and offers S$39.90 (recontract offer, my offer was S$39.95 per month, or new home offer) or S$42.90 per month (new user offer) pricing for 2Gbps plan.

1. Singtel recommended setup with HB810. That is with the more expensive plan at S$65.90 per month. I think the pricing is okay if you want to go with a true WiFi 7 router which is capble of 10G. You can even get the second one for form mesh (TP-Link EasyMesh).

5Gbps Enhanced Plan with WiFi 7 Router at $65.90/mth (U.P. $95.90/mth)
  • Comes with XGS-PON Optical Network Router + 1 unit TP-Link BE22000 WiFi 7 Router

2. More adavnced user may want to add a 10G switch to use more 10G capable devices.

For the basic Singtel 5Gbps plan, it only comes with the Singtel wireless router rated at AX5400, which is capable of 1G only.

If you do not have 10G capable wired device now, but you have 2.5G capable router and wired device, you can reuse your 2.5G capable router.

There are also two options with Singtel provided mesh solution (all only 1G capable), which I will not recommend. It is better to use your own mesh (eg: 2.5G capable, or 1Gbps capable).

Reference: #1 and #2 are not recommended, #3 and #4 are recommended depending on your budget.

2. [NEW] 5Gbps Enhanced Mesh Plan WiFi 6 at $61.18/mth (U.P $116.28/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel WiFi 6 Router and a pair of Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh Extenders

3. 5Gbps Enhanced Plan with WiFi 6 Router at $49.90/mth (U.P. $95.90/mth)

My intended setup --hopefully I can still bridge the ZTE ONR. Let's see whether I can bridge the ZTE F8648P ONR or not. If bridging is not working, I am going to use Double NAT (with DMZ) as a workaround, not that good but I think I can still tahan that. But still I tend to believe there will be a way to bridge the ZTE F8648P ONR.

Reference: previously there were no issues to bridge the ONR and get two IPv4 addresses (one for the bridged port and the other for the ONR itself). But new report says that does not seem to work now.

1. Basic setup with your own 2.5Gbps capable router (eg: Asus GT-AX6000, TUF-AX6000, Xiaomi BE6500 Pro, Xiaomi BE7000, etc, with two or more 2.5G ports). You can always upgrade to 10G capable router later.

2. Basic setup with Singtel issued router, or your own router. You may not have 10Gbps wired device now but you can use a 2.5G wired device first and later upgrade your wired device (desktop, laptop, NAS, etc).

You can configure your own router in router mode as well and live with Double NAT.

3) 2.5G capable APs

Existing Asus RT-AX86U, Asus TUF-6500, along with ZTE BE7200 Pro+, TP-Link TL-7DR6560 and Xiaomi BE5000, only the two Asus will be used. The other three are just for testing purpose.

Hasivo switch 10GBase-T port (normally not used) -- only for SpeedTest (laptop with USB 4 to 10G NIC)
Hasivo switch 2.5G LAN port -- Asus RT-AX86U as AP, wireless network 1 (2.5G WAN)

Miniroute PC 2.5G LAN port -- Asus TUF-6500 as AP, wireless network 2 (2.5G WAN/LAN)

5) Connection scheme (with default unbridged ONR, Double NAT)

Sorry to hijack this topic. I have no place to seek advice. The technical officer from Singtel is not helping either. I just signed up with Singtel 5gpbs(Not the enhanced). I experienced intermittement high MS while playing mobile games. Both the router and the mesh extender is connected to the port on the ONR. I have done the following option:

1. Power off and on the devices many times
2. Getting the technician to drop by my house except they advise me to change to asus router instead.

Many thanks in advance for reading!

Indeed, avoid SingTel mesh solution in general.

What is your budget if need to upgrade the mesh solution?

WA sales doesn't bite, still not offering $49.90 to me lol.

With the risk that ZTE F8648P can not be bridged any more, I guess it is safer to go with Starhub 5Gbps at S$45 per months (but choose to go with the ONT option, must go to the shop to sign up), or VQ 3Gbps/5Gbps plan which use officially bridged ONR.

Master Xiao Fan, you believe the Singtel mesh router and mesh extender is the reason for my intermittment high MS? As for budget wise, i dont really have any in mind. Perhaps the most bang for bucks router and maybe future proof at the same time?

I would rather live with restrictions, than disappointment.

Hi Master xiaofan, i have read this thread few times but still cannot understand the ONR or ONT thing 😅 .

I have already recontracted with singtel for the 5Gps Enchaned Plan, i will be receiving the Singtel Wifi 6 router together with a pair of Singtel Wifi 6 Mesh. If lets say i have a budget of about $800-$1000 how would you recommend my home setup?

Living room - 1 Lan connection to my TV
Computer room - 1 Lan connection to my PC
Master Room - 1 Lan connection to my TV

The rest devices will be on wifi, about 5 ipads, 4 mobile phones, 2 laptops. Currently on the 1gbps singtel mesh plan as well and everything is fine just hope i can maximise usage of the new plans especially catering strong wifi connection for the ipads and phones.

Thank you and appreciate your advice !

1. So you are on the following plan, right?
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/5gbps
[NEW] 5Gbps Enhanced Mesh Plan WiFi 6 at $61.18/mth (U.P $116.28/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel WiFi 6 Router and a pair of Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh Extenders

2. I think you do not need to spend much money on the networking side and you can keep a similar setup as your current setup. You may upgrade your PC to have 10G NIC though.

The following is a quick reference for a potential network configuration.

Singtel ZTE F8648P ONR in DB Box
ONR 1G LAN port -- Living room LAN port - Singtel WiFi 6 router -- 1 Lan connection to TV
ONR 10G LAN port -- Computer room LAN port - Desktop PC (upgrade with a 10G NIC)
ONR 1G LAN port -- Master Room LAN port - Singtel Mesh Extender -- TV
ONR 1G LAN port -- Bedroom LAN port -- Singtel Mesh Extender

Please post your floor plan (with details of the LAN ports location and current wireless router placement) to see if you need to change the above configuration.

3. PCI-E 10G Network adapter for desktop is not expensive. 10G NIC for laptop can be a bit more expensive.

PCI-E 10G NIC for desktop
One example for branded 10G NIC, about S$115, there are many cheaper options if you buy from Taobao.
https://www.asus.com/sg/networking-iot-servers/wired-networking/all-series/xg-c100c/
https://dynacoretech.com/parts-and-...-single-rj-45-port-built-in-qos-4711081573197

USB4/TB3 to 10G NIC
More branded option: OWC Thunderbolt TB3 10G Ethernet Adapter
https://www.owc.com/solutions/thunderbolt-3-10g-ethernet-adapter

Cheaper option: IOCrest USB 4 10G Ethernet adapter
http://www.iocrest.com/index.php?id=2414

4. ONT vs ONR
You do not really need to worry much about ONR in this case since you are fine with your existing Singtel 1Gbps mesh plan.

Looking forward to your results on bridging the ONR - am also in the same decision as you.

Are you getting the following Singtel 5Gbps offer?

[NEW] 5Gbps Enhanced Mesh Plan WiFi 6 at $61.18/mth (U.P $116.28/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel WiFi 6 Router and a pair of Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh Extenders

I believe your life will be better off to get reid of the Singtel provided mesh solution. However I am not into gaming so there may be other issues which is not related to the Singtel provided mesh solution -- it could be that Singtel routing to the gaming server has some problems. Then in that case, changing the mesh solution may not help.

Therefore it is probaly better that you post the mobile game you are playing and see if others using Singtel has the same issue or not. If others do not have issues and they use better wireless routers or mesh solution, then you know Singtel provided mesh solution is the issue. If others also have the same issue even they use better wireless router or mesh solution, then you know it is a Singtel problem and you can delay the upgrade.

As of now 10G capable mesh solution is still quite expensive. For Singtel, the cheapest is probable to go with Singtel provided TP-Link HB810 (you can buy two).

Hello Master Xiaofan, thank you for the reply. i took up the Singtel 5Ggps offer 2 weeks ago and comes with the Singtel Wifi 6 Router and a pair of Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh Extenders.

The mobile game im playing is honor of kings. I have checked with my friends and none had my issue. At the same time, i did a speed test on both of my phone Andriod(Poco F3) and Iphone 13pro respectively. Both of them showed the below results

At the same time, able to guide me which gaming router i should be getting? Hopefully something that is most bang for bucks(and maybe something furture proof). Or do you think i should upgrade to WiFI 7 instead? It comes with TP-Link HB810 at $16.80/mth.

Thank you once again.
