👍👍👍 You’re right

He mentioned audio streaming. Like playing Spotify. But for movies and TV shows that have Dolby Atmos or DTS:X like a lot of Netflix TV shows and movies, then you are better off with Sony's HT-ST5000.

Atmos soundbar even AVR setup so far no models below $2k or even $1k.
My AVR atmos setup cost me $2.5k
Pretty much Atmos products are within that level.
There is one package but that one is true atmos package with 5.1.2 setup.
Onkyo HTS-7800 at $1.8k but that is for user who don't mind the extra speakers.
However if you don't have many Atmos contents, mainly Netflix or Android box.
Soundbar with Dolby Digital will do fine.
I don't want to argue or emphasis about Atmos.
For best experience for Atmos usually are Blu Ray.
Netflix is not for me as I tried with my AVR it doesn't shine.

I see thanks for the explanation as my budget is not more than $1600. As I have already put deposit I don’t have much choices but only to get from Gain City there.

Waiting for this one..

https://www.sony.com/electronics/sound-bars/ht-z9f

support DSD audio format..
DSD (.dsf/.diff), Wav, Flac, Alac (.m4a only), AIFF, HE AAC, AAC, mp3, Monkey Audio, WMA, Ogg Vorbis

That range not sure when will come in.
The F series TV are slowly coming in.
I am still waiting for Sony 4K UHD X700 player as
Sony have told that mid year it should arrive.

Maybe those soundbar will come about the same time?

Really depend on your source and budget.
If you don't have a lot of Atmos Blu ray and tight on budget.
Pioneer VSX532 should do fine and you can reuse your
current speakers.

I bought my SONY HT-ST 5000 from retail shop at $1900.
I have been using it for 3 months.
Sound experience really swept me off my feet for Dolby ATMOS materials. It brings movie watching experience to a whole new level.
Other than the above mentioned, ST 5000 is just a regular soundbar for other sound formats like DTS or Dolby Digital.
Guess ATMOS capability is ST 5000 selling point.

Have you compared it with the LG SJ9? How does the ST5000 perform for music?

What's is a good soundbar to get for a computer? Very basic performance needed. Occasionally listen to music, youtube, facebook, etc.

Not planning to watch movies or game on this machine.

Possible to get something in the $250 - $300 range? With powerful bass, if possible.

Err... Actually bookshelf or 2.1 will sound better than soundbar especially for music.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking for something that is compact and not so bulky. That's why I'm going for a soundbar.

I went to demo the Sony HT-CT290. Sounded quite good to me.

Thinking of getting the Sony HT-MT300 Compact version. Didn't demo it but the salesperson said the sound quality was identical to the HT-CT290.

Anyone have experience with these?

Get the 290 will do, sound are not identical to each other.
Another thing is that 290 uses HDMI ARC to connect to TV while the 300 is optical.

Ended up getting the HT-MT300. Compact design is better for my computer. Fits in nicely below my monitor.

Sound is good too. Bass is decent. Tested on a few songs and movies.

Thanks all for the feedback.
