For a fair comparison, i feel that one should be comparing TCL and Prism TVs side by side, instead of against the big boys like Samsung, LG, Sony.

More fair comparison is with Prism, AOC, Harson, Akira TVs sold in NTUC or similar shops, as well as Xiaomi TV sold through online shops.

TCL TVs running official Android TV OS with Netflix HD are very good buy against all the others, including the cheaper Xiaomi, because of the local warranty and Netflix support and great Google ecosystem (apps) support.

In terms of app support it even beats Samsung and LG which are not that smart in the end (eg, lack of VPN app support). In fact Mi Box S running official Android TV is a very good complement for Samsung and LG to add support for more apps.

Xiaomi TV running official Android TV OS (eg, Russian 4S) are very good buy as well but it does not have Netflix HD.

Can la .TCL took a 67 percent stake in the joint venture, with Thomson SA holding the rest of the shares, and it was agreed that televisions made by TCL-Thomson would be marketed under the TCL brand in Asia and the Thomson and RCA brands in Europe and North America.

When they say parallel import, is this Sony China model? China model is much cheaper than SG model and got no Google Play Services and got no Netflix.

TCL = Televison Cant Last :s13:

I think we just need to temper our expectations on quality and durability.
After all, it's an entry level TV which gives a lot of TV for not much.

There are other options for those looking for more.

Agree.

If you are on a budget, this TV seems to give a lot more than what others are offering, for the same price.

If one has deeper pockets, of course no need to take a 2nd look at this TV.

I am surprised that the 50P8S is going for $699 now, while the better specs 55P8M was going for $599 previously.

Gotten the 65" dun understand why need 2 remotes

one is the black larger unwieldly remote meant for normal usage

the other smaller silver remote needs to do pairing which is meant for "netflix" but I found it smaller and convenient to use

FYI only, TCL 8K X9 QLED TV, 65inch at official retail price of RMB19999 (less than S$4000).
http://m.tcl.com/tv/2b40d8e9250d41f8ae8a092bc4a464c

Chinese Youtube review of China version 65inch X9 8k QLED review, he got it with roughly RMB14000 (less than S$2800), with the bundled Onkyo Dolby Atmos Soundbar
https://youtu.be/i4af9q1VGTM

China version, no Google Play services, but with good response (4GB RAM, 32GB storage, 2xA73+2xA53 Quad Core CPU)

Only three HDMI ports, and only one HDMI 2.1 port among the three ports, no optical audio interface.

Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support

Play well with Xbox One S and Apple TV 4K

Not able to have Dolby Vision under Nvidia Shield TV 2019 under Netflix

8k resolution is very nice but no 8k source

Not able to decode 8k media well as per the reviewer
