True or false - if you unemployed for more than 6 months, you will no longer be counted as part of unemployed statistics?

A colleague who studied economics was talking about this today. I don't know if he is bluffing. I know there are people who have been searching for jobs for over a year. If they are not counted as unemployed then I don't trust the reported numbers.

If not working and no longer looking for job for more than certain period of time, these are considered discouraged workers and not counted into unemployment rate.
But not sure if sinkieland practice this or not.

A better indicator would be labor participation rate. I think sinkieland is around 70%, 70% of adults are working which is quite a high percentile but that could also be driven by high cost of living, forcing people out of retirement.

very true

so technically only about 0.5% is unemployed
if u are above 40 but jobless for long time, u r retired
if u fresh graduate and graduated alr but haven't found job, u r still studying
if u r 30s plus, u r taking a short break
