I am the next one in the long line of LG users to have my TV go dead just after warranty period ends. It's a 55LM7600, in service for 3 years 3 months. Wouldn't power on and no standby light. Going to call LG and ask for an assessment as a new large screen tv is not cheap.

I've never had a TV fail so soon under normal usage. My Panasonic 42" plasma is 8 years old now and still going strong. Toshiba 47" LCD 6 years no issues to date. LG 27" monitor failed after 2 years (luckily under warranty). LG 55" TV failed after 3 yrs 3 months. Samsung 32" LCD TV failed after 3 years +.

Conclusion? Are Korean brands still subpar?

For my case, it is a Samsung UA40ES6200 that I purchased almost 4 years back before moving house to current AMK location. Bought 2 x 40" (2 Bedrooms) and 1 x 46" (Living Room). So far, the one in the other Bedroom 40" already had some issue previously with (cannot recall) if it was the lower 1/4 or upper that turned dimmed. End up still under warranty so booked an appointment with Samsung where the engineer came by and I guess replace some lighting tubes (or whatever parts) and now back to normal. It now happens on and off for the one in my bedroom. The upper 1/4 also started to dim but then after a short while back to normal. Now is normal again. I am quite sure warranty has expired so I thought if still going to happen and become permanently dimmed upper 1/4 I might as well get a new 4K Samsung TV.

Just wanna check for those dealed with Samsung TVs, is it possible to buy a new one and request Samsung to assist to dismantle the current 46" wall mount at living room and re-installed replacing my "faulty" 40" while the new one to be installed in the living room? I understand if possible, there is likely to be surcharged and the free wall mounting installation is per new TV purchased.

55" still worth it if u want to repair. If 32" or 40" then not worth doing it because $799 can get 40". 32" even cheaper at ~ $400 so can throw away. To repair 32" can cost ~$300.

is it an easy repair ? :(

Standard repair for all LED Tv. They have motherboard, powerboard and LED screen. Heard that LG no longer selling spare parts and u have to get their tech to do it. For big Tv it is still worth repairing it. Please ask LG for a quote. $300+ should be reasonable.

My Samsung LED TV recently developed some "grey clouds" (or smudge) on the screen. It is visible when the screen shows a solid light background. Seems to be coming from inside the screen (the screen is clean BTW). The TV is still watchable, but it is distracting.

I'm not sure if Samsung will repair this or they will call it "wear and tear"

Anyone encountered similar issue?

If under warranty just get Samsung to settle the issue. No worry.

Update: Paid SGD 170+ to just get the LG technician to come. Another SGD 90 to replace the power board, which seems cheap. All in, i spent SGD 270+ to get this fixed.

My friend LCD tv is sort of spoilt. The screen is still intact however no more sounds. Can it be repaired like sound card spoil or something. I'm assuming he got no more warranty. If can be repaired, where ah? Sim lim?

Only Samsung has the part and look like motherboard faulty. Tv only can change whole motherboard or powerboard which is simple repair. If LCD faulty then cost more. How big is the Tv?

For big tv, it is worth the repair. If 32" then not worth it. Sometime after sometime motherboard may spoil. If 32" LG, it is $469 for a new Tv with 3 yrs warrenty. If powerboard faulty and after 6 mths the motherboard became faulty. Then repairing the Tv will cost more than a new 32" Tv.

Xiaomi Tv colour not so nice and they do not have Toggle and it does not have warranty in sg at all. If spoilt no agent in sg to repair it. Understand many people in sg have xiaomi Tv and very soon the Tv go up lorry. Some after 1-6 mths their Tv already spoilt.

i have a 42 inch LG TV.. But my toddler used the remote to hit the screen and now the screen is gone. Is it worth it to repair the screen ? The rest of the TV is working, as it there is sound and you can change the channels etc .

Common issue. The screen is the most expensive part. Most people usually keep their remote in the drawer if they have a toddler. No one will put the remote openly and usually some one must be with the toddler so that he/she do not do any thing funny.

Toddlers can also pick up his/her toys and throw at the screen, so keeping remote does not guarantee the TV will be safe.

Might want to consider things to protect the tv like a plastic screen or something else after u repair liao, the screen get attacked again.

The manufacturer has control over their spare parts. It is not available outside the manufacturer spare part department. Just read some of the posts in this thread will give you the answer. Most of the time for 32" Tv the cost of repair can cost 50% to 70% of a new Tv. It will be wiser to get a new budget Tv with 3 yrs warrenty rather than repairing it. After repaired the Tv, it may be faulty again. A new 32 Tv is only $399 to $599. For bedroom Tv a 42 or 32" is ok as we are sitting nearer to the Tv. Such Tv common problem are motherboard or powerboard or the screen. It can be powerboard faulty and after 6 to 12 mths motherboard faulty and then after some time screen faulty or powerboard again. It can be no end. Keep paying for repair is like the price of a new 32 Tv.
