The following is a detailed decline of Accountancy field since 2009, not to mention it's also being offshored to cheaper countries and foreigners:
if anything, a recruiter wants to have as many people in singapore as possible to have a larger candidate pool for their clients.
It goes against their business model to just consider singaporeans unless mandated by the government eg. employment pass quotas.
This is one of the industries that is more than happy with a larger population size in singapore. Another would be the property industry.

I'm also serious about what I said. U know how many ppl failed that interview multiple times including me? Even cbs that I saw & knew also failed multiple times leh.

That depends on your current phase of life. If you have a genuine reason to move, age should not be the starting point.
The better question is:
What value can I create for the next employer, and why should they choose me?
To employers, hearing ’20 years of experience’ just sounds expensive.
Sell what those 20 years have given you: judgement, pattern recognition, leadership, relationships, commercial understanding and the ability to handle complexity.
Career security is not simply keeping your current job. It is remaining employable, adaptable and professionally visible before you actually need to move.

Yes, there is hope in the industry. Just a different one.
Technical fundamentals like tax, audit, and financial reporting aren't going anywhere. But routine, repetitive work is rapidly being automated.
What is increasingly valuable is the ability to interpret numbers, use technology and influence decisions.
To stay competitive, focus on these:
- Digital/AI fluency — automation, analytics and knowing how to validate AI output.
- Commercial acumen — understanding revenue, costs, risk and business strategy.
- Human judgement — communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management and ethics.
You don’t have to compete with automation. Use it to step into higher-value advisory roles.

No coach or a Career Buddy guarantee you a C-suite role. Anyone who promises that is selling snake oil.

We would challenge the premise slightly: the market is not uniformly bad. It is highly selective.
Employers are becoming more cautious about headcount, restructuring roles around AI and automation. They are looking for plug-and-play specialists.
This creates a difficult situation for experienced candidates whose value is not immediately obvious. You can have 15 years of experience and still lose to someone with 7 if the person makes it crystal clear what problem they can solve.
If the employer can't tell whether you can solve their exact pain point within 5 seconds of scanning your CV, you're out.

Nonsense. My friend join a sme, her boss open multiple new companies under her name and appoint her as director and an assortment of c-suite roles in each company.
Everyone who join also c-suite after probation.
