if you dont need branded lens or got high astig or what, for 1.74 index lens the price this shop quoted me was $180-190.

Lifehacking "Lobangs" in Singapore: Lifehacksg#17 - Uncle Tony's Glasses

but my degree is about 600+ and my budget limited, so i went for 1.67 lens
at around $100.
:)

anyone tried this recently?
in the basement of Peninsular Shopping Centre - New China Optician (#B1-12) run by Uncle Tony.

just high index, maybe 70 - 100 more

mine need high index + progressive, easily add 200 more

You sure? You do know that after 1.5, there is still 1.56, 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74. Unlike Owndays which charge 1 single top up fee for upgrading from lower indexes to 1.67 or 1.74, other optical shops out there charge different prices depending on the index you opt for. Normal no brand lens jump from 1.67 to 1.74 already costs around $100. Crizal lens upgrade from 1.5 to 1.67 or 1.74 costs 70-100 more only? Not possible, let alone Crizal prevencia lens which was only launched here pretty recently.

Nanyang seems a good bargain, where in clementi is the shop? dont know if they have shop in north-east area ?

I got it at Clementi Mall, but there are quite a few branches (see website).

I don't really think it's good bargain la (but at least not chop carrot)...
Asked around neighborhood shops, the price for the prevencia lens is the same.
But I went Nanyang in the end, as the range of frames available is wider and nicer compared to neighborhood shops.

For the frames, always got what "discounts", but my feeling is that it's marketing gimmick.. that's the price they want to sell you in the first place :p

That aside, the frame I got .. maybe it's a bargain?
The neighborhood shop $80 frame quite ugly imo, got a much nicer frame at Nanyang for same price (original price *supposedly* $128). Being a noob, now a bit regret also, because bought on impulse, plus I've never heard of the brand of the frame .. dunno good or not LOL... esp. after seeing the post #165 for the Oakley Crosslink!

Crizal prevencia pricing is standard across all the optical shops which have this lens for sale. Also, you dont even require glasses in the 1st place so why spend a bomb going for branded frames? Frame alone can go up to $1k, you willing to pay this price just for vanity sake? Since all you wanted is a pair of glasses fitted with UV/blue light cut lenses, just make do with whatever cheap frame there is as long as it serves your purpose.

Did it @ Nanyang Optical (Clementi).

First timer.. v noob. Don't know anything about index, didn't ask also =:p
Only know the lens is 170 for the normal one (I assume 1.7?)
Because I chose 1/2 frame, so have to go next level thinner (+$60).

Before going Nanyang, I asked at a neighborhood shop.. the price for the lens is the same... so I guess it's quite standard.

does your lens have any crizal mark etched and comes with authentic card?

"Eyecare" at far east plaza is the full n correct name of the shop? Becuz this shop is not in the list of stores offering crizal prevencia lens. Therefore, i dont even know whether the info they gave you is legit. Central - Crizal Prevencia Stores

sometimes the list changes
other times they go by an indirect route to sell
generally speaking if they have an official price list (physically)for the lenses to show you, they're "legit"
prevencia's coating is bright purple.........:s22:

today checked the above shop, for normal lens their package is about 88 - 180, price quite ok

i checked the 180 package, when ask 1.67 lens need to add 70 so total 250, when add progressive 1.67 lens the price become 458, if i want to add transition need to top up another 100 so final price become 558, not cheap at all.

btw the lady boss told me their lans is jap visaview

name should be vistaview , dunno whether it's jap lol :s13:

How much for an optometrist test or routine checkup at SNEC without referral?
edit: Just saw the rate card, about $100
Does the general eye examination provide the eyewear prescription at the end of the appointment?

never did my tests there before, but heard it's 80 onwards

I generally recommend snec for troublesome kids who can't sit still so that they can hit the kid with eyedrops and blind him for the next few hours to give him a scare:s22:

you're supposed to get a piece of paper or slip or card with your prescription on it and any other relevant information you asked them to put in
generally most clinics/shops don't mind giving out the info as competition is stiff .... no point offending over this small stuff , plus if you were to go anywhere to make lenses the test is usually factored in ...... can even use that as a bargaining chip for some places
