May I know what do "Axis" and "VA" mean ?
Googled and didn't understand :s11:

all prescriptions with astigmatism needs a correct axis . for a lens edger that's the direction to cut the lens
Optical axis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
yours meant the right eye has an astig power of cylinder-0.50D at 160degrees

VA is visual acuity . or how well you can see
Visual acuity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

6/6 meant it's fully corrected . you could probably see better than 6/6 but they don't particuarly need to put anything better
it's used for some as a message for the next person reading that you don't have eye problems

Actually I don't need glasses, but since I stare at computer screen for long hours, I just went ahead for Crizal Prevencia.
Ever since I've started using LED monitors, I find it quite glaring compared to CCFL backlight (even with anti-glare coating on the monitor, brightness level at most 25).. after some time will get a little blur vision esp. when reading text on screen.
are the lights in your room ample?

win liao lor.....this kind of degree and the shop staff still recommended you to go for even thinner lens.....
actually it's because the power is too low, at 1.5 index the lens edge would chipped off easily at slight pressure for rimlon frames(half frames) because the lens is too thin
same for rimless, it's like dropping your handphone . for people who drop stuff often 1.6 has a better tensile strength to prevent damage
unless you assure the staff you are a careful person and wouldn't come back and scream at them when your lens chip off it's best to take 1.6

Whats your eyes degree? Even though its half frame, there really is no need to go for ultra high index unless your degree is super high. I have an old pair of half frame glasses with 1.60 index lense(degree around 600+), it looks thick at certain angles but to me no issue. Vanity comes with a price so some people are willing to pay more for thinner lenses even though its not even necessary.

actually when the lenses are too thick the prismatic effect is greater . your field of vision also narrows . glare from lens edges also increased .
it's not really simply a vanity issue
I knew a guy who once wore -8.00 with a 1.5 lens , he made sure it's a small thick frame:s22::s22:

The thing is, whenever a thread asking for cheap spectacle pops up, Owndays get recommended in an instant. Yes, on paper $98 all in seems really attractive, but nobody bothers to mention the caveats. $98 is only for 1.60 index lens and their range of $98 frames are limited and mainly suited for females. If you choose their cheapest ultem frame, which costs $168 irrc, upgrade to my preferred 1.67 index due to my degree, opt for blue light cut coating, total cost would run to $168 + $100 + $100 = $368. At this price, you can get a whole lot more quality from your nan yangs and your spectacle huts. But hey, since you said what they selling is a "japanese way of life" then maybe thats the price you pay.

People who are looking for something similar to ownaday might wanna to take a look at Optics House. Japanese brand, same all-in price system but based on what i have seen, at least their frames seem to be of better quality than what owndays have to offer.
mdm i'm not their customer nor do I support them but I still do recommend them
but lol I've always thought their ultem frames were $98 with 1.6
for people who walk in and out for no frills glasses, they provide basic services , not particularly good nor bad , just simple and fast that's the way of life i'm talking about, simplifying the purchase
it's like a dell computer, they don't give you the best parts for your money but the pc is assembled and you're given a warranty
if you know what you're buying and price check you can definitely get better stuff. but for those who don't buy often they're simple.

if it's actually $168 it may not be as suitable I guess?
you could probably get 1.6 hoya/ crizal/AO lenses with an ultem frame for $168 elsewhere

not really, there are cheaper alternatives but all come with some draw back .
coating clarity
coating toughness
smooth coat quality

I've always worn more premium lenses (teflon) so I cannot comment on non branded lenses where personal usage is concern but those who switch down tend to commonly feedback the following

lens yellowing easily
scratches
clarity
lens smudges more easily

Interested in Teflon where you recommend sir ?

machine tests are not accurate

if you really want an accurate test just book an appointment at snec

if your eyes arent worth them much to you , book an appointment with a trainee optometrist then at SP optometry center dover or their west coast outlet :s22:
what are the tests at snec ?
I went to shop and do and they do those usual cover one eye see letters. same with the trianee opto one. results are similar too.

Similar there's a chance it might be wrong with older machines.
You can't sue a machine.
Covering one eye is for VA and subjective refraction tests.
Snec should offer eye pressure tests. Cornea examinations. Tests for cataracts. Glaucoma.... Etc
These tests can also very available in shops but not all
