The cost of construction and maintenance will be humongous. Maintaining a car is much cheaper than maintaining trains and stations.

For a country size and population size of 5 mil, really need such massive train network?

What do u think?

Change here and there to get to the destination faster I guess. Taipei is like this, Hong Kong too. Can be quite complicated if unfamiliar with the lines when it grow bigger.

I don't give a shiet about speed becos SG is only so small. But the maintenance and space those infrastructure took up is going to be insane!

Cos public transport is essential to a small island. Everyone got car then how? LOL

To stimulate economy?

Throwing good money into loss making venture is just stupidity?

Maintaining a car is way cheaper and the roads only took up small size. Maintaining trains is crazy expensive and the tracks and train interchange will take up insane amount of lands.

I rather buy auto stocks than rail stocks becos rails don't make much money! All rail transport stocks are barely profitable.

More energy efficient for trains and buses to transport massive number of people than car including ev. Very important as reducing carbon emission and becoming carbon neutral is the trend now.

The land area for roads to transport similar number of people as mrt trains is even larger. According to LTA, roads take up 12% of singapore land area.

actually, the real problem with this when they increase the bulk lines of MRT is that, they dont reduce roads/cars.
by right since many r switching to MRT (allegedly?), then why have so much roads? roads should shrink becos less cars ... but as we all know, this is not the case
google you can see roughly every year the amt of roads increase by 100 200km ... every year
and amt of vehicles on road never decrease significantly, always nearly 1million vehicles total

so there we are in the region of badly diminishing returns or negative returns since the bill for MRT is now sky high

cause someone promise 8/10 Sinkies will be within 10mins of train station by 2040....

Long distance HSR serving a larger no. of passenger don't build, but build so many stupid station in tiny island state with limited population :s22:

build mrt station = nearby land rise in value = get more from land sales

That is assuming Singaporeans are willing to foot higher price for property, in which Sinkies are already complaining about high property price.

We need more lines ...many areas still not served by MRT
very unfair
Utility pooling don't always make economic sense especially when the maintenance cost are high and when population numbers don't add up. It's insane and stupidity when you think pooling everyone into taking trains can turn a profit when it's rise in 1 sector and decline in another.

Because only sinkies aspire to buy car. FTs used to subways and trains so....
