Any good air mouse to use with mibox s? Anyone can share your experience?
not really considered air mouse but I have a Logitech k830 htpc keyboard+trackpad combo. but most of the time default control is good enough.

Buying a Mi Box myself, just want to double check with you experts here before I pull the trigger. You guys are recommending this box right?

mibox S is newer but has lower soc clockspeed and unable to support HD audio passthrough.

Thanks for the link- didn’t know it was that much cheaper on Lazada. Will buy that then.

So am I right to say that basically, Xiaomi launched the Mi Box S but actually there’s no improvement on it besides the newer shell on the outside?

unless you consider android 8.1 vs 8.0 to be an improvement, then yes the mibox S has that 0.1 improvement. :s13:

I got the mi box 4 from China. Don't suppose it's useful? :( Realised only after I got it.

It can't detect my 5ghz signal and of course it's in Chinese. No international rom available for flash I suppose?

go to your router and change the wifi channel. mibox can only work with lower channel numbers in the 5GHz band.

ignore the pre-installed apps because most of them are locked in china.

you can install other better apps.

I tried that actually. Lower to channel 60 but still didn't get to work sadly

If I'm not wrong,

Mi Box 4 for China market -- don't support 5Ghz WiFi, only supports 2.4Ghz WiFi.

There are 2 models of Mi Box 4 for China market:

(1) MDZ-20-AA: 1GB+8GB (Black, Mi Box 4C)
(2) MDZ-21-AA: 2GB+8GB (White, Mi Box 4)

If you're using either model above, I think don't bother changing 5Ghz WiFi channel on your router -- both models don't support 5Ghz WiFi at all.

You can check the specs for above models of Mi Box 4 for China market on Xiaomi Website at this link:
https://www.mi.com/mibox4/specs/

You can also check specs for previous Mi Box 3 series models for China market on Xiaomi Website at this link:
https://www.mi.com/hezi3/specs/

As you can see from above 2 links -- under the item 'WIFI':

For Mi Box 3 series -- stated as "双频 2.4GHz/5GHz,802.11a/b/g/n/ac" (so 5Ghz WiFi is supported)

For Mi Box 4 series -- stated ONLY as "802.11b/g/n、2.4GHz" (so 5Ghz WiFi is NOT SUPPORTED)

If you wanted to use 5Ghz WiFi, then you should have easily checked Mi Box 4 specs using the above link BEFORE buying.

I think people just assume that all models of Mi Box 4 series support 5Ghz WiFi -- because (previous) models of Mi Box 3 series for China market all supported 5Ghz WiFi.

Don't ask me -- why previous models of Mi Box 3 series for China market all support 5Ghz WiFi -- yet newer Mi Box 4 series for China market don't support 5Ghz WiFi.

I don't know why -- go ask Xiaomi :)

Of course above are just Mi Box models for China market.

There are also Mi Box models for overseas market -- which many people in this thread are using:

MDZ-16-AB: Mi Box 3 International Edition, 2GB+8GB, upgradeable to Android TV OS 8.0
MDZ-22-AB: Mi Box S, 2GB+8GB, Android TV OS 8.1 (which logically speaking, is Mi Box 4 international edition)

You can check specs for MDZ-16-AB at this link:
https://www.mi.com/global/mibox/

You can check specs for MDZ-22-AB at this link:
https://www.mi.com/us/mi-box-s/specs/

Yes, both MDZ-16-AB & MDZ-22-AB support 5Ghz WiFi :)
