Are you doing global index investing now? I watched Nick Leeson's movie The Rogue trader, he brought down Barings bank by making huge losses trading Nikkei futures. He was in Singapore and he was a British, what business did he have trading Nikkei? It was just that it was a fad in the late 80s to trade Nikkei.

I see China tech stocks also same way. What business do we have to trade China stocks? Just because they were latest fad. After 10 years there will be another new fad and China tech stocks will be forgotten, just like Nikkei is now forgotten.
Trying to diversify to dividend and index

Fundamentals very important, if you don't get the fundamentally cheap stocks, 10 years you also won't profit
The ones that I bought are minor main players in their industry....I think I will write the investment as losses 🤣

Usually the main players you are just going to get market returns, and if you buy when it's all time high, gonna take like several decades to recover

Somehow Japan maybe making a comeback as of current. As to whether it is the start of an upward trend remain to be seen.

I hope you are young. The earlier we make mistakes in our investment career, the better it is, as we can recover from it. I learn long term index investing only recently.

They are unique situation. Aging population and their culture don't like immigration. Then on top their companies are all bad corporate governance. Not very shareholder friendly, they run like family business. I have learnt that if something is cheap, it is for a reason. I just stick with MSCI global index now.

If you are using tiger brokers ,there's a analysis function which you can use to benchmark your performance according to snp500 and other indexes like hsi, sti etf ,you can check your performance vs others for the period you invested, personally I beat all indexes except sti etf lol
It means you performed better than all the loss making indexes.

Come to think about it, my networth in year 2023 if includes equities from properties would be around 2.5 million sgd thanks to the buoyant property market(includes primary residence). Liquid networth still low at around 400 k sgd.
How old are you?
I made several wrong risky investments, stuck at 2m range since 2-3 y ago.

I guess those risky investments is also what got you to the 2m in the 1st place, so I guess it is fine. It is close to impossible to ride the upside without riding the downside. I see Puru Saxena was like a rockstar during pandemic boom, but has been losing money in the last 2 years. But then he is already retired and made his wealth using the same risk taking techniques, so it is fine at the end of the day.

Just pass 38 years old.
I made an investment loss back in year 2016-2017 in Noble too, lost around 76.8 k sgd on this stock alone. However during the same period of time, my highly leveraged Hong Kong portfolio returned very positive result, I exited all HK positions early 2018 after I closed my Noble trade(a complete write off, end 2017). With the gains from HK market, I purchased another condo mid 2018, leased out until now. Currently lease out at 2550 sgd per month.

I rarely do risky investment nowadays, mainly save up every month and purchase some stocks, mainly QQQ or Apple.

Correct, normally people just need to take risk once or twice, then just take part of the money to invest again. The problem with most people is that they take profit too soon during uptrend.

my portfolio lost 35% in April 2020 which was a significant 6 figure amount. To me, 35% discount is an opportunity to buy more 🍻 📉 📉 📉

Let market recover and collect dividends while waiting. Power of CD! 🏧 💲
