What i mean is if interest rate drops and say the yield for a bond funds drops to say 2% vs a HYSA that pays 1.5%, it's not worth getting that additional 0.5% for the potential capital loss when interest rates hike like in 2022/23
I think typical IG bonds have at least a spread of 1.5-2% above high yield acct like UOB one. (During normal yield curve period)

August is also a great month for SG dividends, STI ETF and the 3 banks paying out, another huge month of dividends for me.
> 1/2 of my ytd networth gain was from the last 2 months due to capital gain. Almost all my portfolio are interest sensitive , I guess the rate cut tide lift all boats

YTD liquid networth increase >305k (end Aug).. Can't believe the number ,now scrubbing my excel:unsure:
That's about 15% to 20% return YTD?

But if you don't sell to cash, that YTD return is meaningless. It needs to be compared to a benchmark, and even in that case, it only indicates your investing skill, not how much you can take out.

the holding period for my stock portfolio is forever, I will live off passive income so I don't need to sell to cash

I guess it means that my portfolio return is meaningless, which I actually agree with, so whenever I show my return, pls take it as entertainment only :ROFLMAO:

I disagree that your portfolio unrealised gain is meaningless. It shows how your investment is faring. U never know if suddenly need to sell for cash.

yea, this is something that needs to be emphasized, that % return and how much can withdraw are two totally different things.

Investigating how much you can withdraw without affecting your long-term performance is another separate subject.

Good or poor is relative to what? What is considered good, what is bad performance?

My liquid networth calculation is very simple..Take whatever statements from my bank, brokerage and insurance investment account and tally up every month to compare.
I hardly sell stock as I am a dividend investors .This year I only sold 2 US stocks as they have made 358% and and 268% profit respectively.I am not sure there is meat left as their dividend is less than 2%. The proceed is immediately reinvested so I hardly have much cash around.

same here, I hardly sell stock. Decided to practice selling stock as mentioned in another thread to see whether it was something I could do regularly. Bought and sold PLTR and NKE, made a few thousand in a week or so, but stock-picking is not simple. still waiting to re-enter, but not sure when.

Much simpler to just wait for passive income to magically appear in your bank account and spend that money!
