We have booked our flights to Christchurch in April 2019 and would like to seek your opinions on the below itinerary
Day 1: Christchurch > Punakaiki > Hokitika (Punakaiki, Devil's Punchbowl Waterfall)
Day 2: Hokitika > Wanaka (Hokitika Gorge, Lake Matheson Walk, Blue Pools, Fox Glacier Access)
Day 3: Wanaka (Isthmus Peak Hike)
Day 4: Wanaka > Queenstown (Roy's Peak Hike)
Day 5: Queenstown (Day trip to Glenorchy and Arrowtown)
Day 6: Queenstown (Zipline, Hang Gliding, Luge)
Day 7: Queenstown > Milford Sound (Milford Sound Kayak)
Day 8: Milford Sound > Catlins (via Invercargill) ->
not sure what to see
Day 9: Catlins > Dunedin (Seals, Penguins, Cheese Factory)
Day 10: Dunedin > Lake Tekapo (Clay Cliffs, Hot Springs, Star Gazing)
Day 11: Lake Tekapo (Day trip to Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki)
Day 12: Lake Tekapo > Christchurch (Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, Alpaca Farmstay)
Day 13: Christchurch > Blenheim (Marlborough Wineries)
Day 14: Blenheim > Christchurch (Kaikoura Dolphins)
Day 15: Christchurch > Singapore
My questions are:
- Is this itinerary do-able on a campervan? (Day 13-14 will be traveling by car instead)
- Is there anything interesting along the drive from Milford Sound to Catlins?
- We have planned 2 confirmed 6-8 hours hikes (Roy's Peak and Isthmus Peak) and 1 in KIV (Mount Alfred). If there is nothing interesting at Invercargill/Catlins area, then we probably stay in Queenstown another night and do the Mt Alfred hike, and then directly to go Dunedin from Milfrod Sound.
- Any comments on Roy's Peak, Isthmus, Mt Alfred hikes? Which are the day hikes do you recommend?
Thank you
