Quick check. If International Driving Permit is required for driving in NZ?
Renting from Apex & Omega.
IDP required only if the driving license is not in English.

I rented from Apex and just gave my Singapore driving license. No problem.
has any of u tried a transit time of 1 hr with qantas?
found a 1.1k tix but both ways have a transit time of about an hour, super tight...
the trip there has a transit time of 1 h 50 mins
the trip back home has a transit time of 1 h 5 mins
if any delay in the 1st leg of each way, siao liao...
Just booked air tix for a trip in Aug and am now shopping for a self contained camper rental
Been trying to find reviews for providers and found the following
Wilderness - new modern vans but expensive
Maui - slightly cheaper than wilderness and relatively new vans
Britz - 30% cheaper than above 2 provider but older vans (are they hand me downs from Maui?)
Apollo - no positive reviews and also can’t find any review of van quality
Looks like Britz 4 berths is a good balance of space and price based on my Budget. Anyone has used the brand care to share your personal review?
Thanks!
Thank you
Appreciate ur kind input given!
Yes, the wilderness vans look so nice and posh on the inside too. Would definitely make the trip a really comfortable one.
But...It’s almost $800 more as compared to britz so its really putting me off
Well as Long as it’s reasonably clean inside, no funky smells, and everything functions like it should I’ll be satisfied. Btw which model Britz did u get? I’m just travelling as a twosome but wanted a 4 berth so that I needn’t set up the bed daily
My wife and I had a budget van from The Pod. We just set the bed once and left it.I used Britz Vista.
Yes, setting up bed daily becomes a bit annoying after some time.
anyone has quick advice on how to go around NZ alone? inclined towards farms and nature, mountains etc.

I took the most comprehensive coverage for car insurance thru the car rental coy.jts:
we were in NZ during the last Dec holidays. Took car for SI and motorhome for NI.
those going NI, highly recommend going to the Coromandel Peninsula area, esp if you love beaches. I don’t think it gets enough love!
Anyways, we damaged the MH pulling out from a carpark. Luckily for us, the driver of the other vehicle was chill about it (his truck was barely affected while our MH sustained some tears wahlao)
anyways it took a while to settle (almost 6 weeks after our return) coz it was over the year end hols and the MH went out for rental again the day after we returned. the repairs came up to $900+ but our travel insurance covered it all. I always buy Traveljoy from sompo for all my travels and sometimes they are a bit not so easy to deal with but they always pull through at the end.
our windshield also cracked when a passing truck kicked up a little pebble. fortunately the MH boss was very quick to find someone in rotorua to come to our holiday park to help us fix it.
MH is actually a very expensive way to see NZ unless u are very willing to rough it out with no running water or electricity that kind. given a choice, we wouldn’t do it again. car is still best for its mobility. there were some places we wanted to go that were not (easily) accessible by MH.
if anyone is looking, we rented from Kiwi Motorhomes. The bosses, Leon and Varnier were very helpful and responsive and always checking in on us. I wouldn’t recommend that vehicle we got, tho, coz it’s a manual trans and just too old. My husband has years of experience driving a manual trans truck and he barely survived lol.
