London D4: 12/8/18
This is the highlight of my modern trip and in some ways, you can call it the highlight of my fan life. I have always been a fan of Liverpool since I was 15 years old.
I woke up around 5.30a.m, having slept only 4 hours and getting ready for my trip to Anfield stadium. Hit the walkways of central Barking around 6a.m and it was almost deserted. Peaceful sight from the usual bustle of people from all walks of life.
I reached the station around 7.30a.m with lots of time to spare as my train was only due to arrive at 8.15a.m. Upon the announcement for embarkation, suddenly everyone swarm in droves to the platform and only after boarding did I knew the reason; there was no space for seating onboard the train.
Here you can see droves of people going to platform. How many visible Liverpool fans do you see here?
The train was overloaded and the train driver admitted this circumstance. The train was late by 20mins as a result and I only reached Liverpool station with 2 hours to spare before match starts. This was how crowded it was. I speculated some people did not buy train tickets there.
Reaching the station, I could immediately hear fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone", Liverpool's club anthem. Such is the emotional response of Liverpool fans before reaching the stadium.
The first sight that greeted me when I stepped out of the railway station.
It was a 40mins walk to The Sandon, the birthplace of Liverpool FC. Here I collected my matchday hospitality ticket and made my way to the buffet meal.
Buffet was average but who buys the hospitality ticket for buffet. We eat to cheer for Liverpool.
This is the crowd of Liverpool matchday hospitality ticket holders having a meal.
I had boiled chicken with tomato-like sauce, brocoli, long beans, potatoes and carrot. I claimed my complimentary voucher for a glass of Carlsberg.
