It’s that time of the year again as we gear up for the annual Star Awards.
While we were subjected to speculation and nail-biting anticipation for last year’s nominees with plenty of teasers released prior to the reveal, Star Awards 2019’s list came in like a wrecking ball.
Leading the pack are A Million Dollar Dream and Blessings 2, which both chalked up an impressive six gongs each. Following closely behind are You Can Be An Angel 3 with five nods, along with Doppelganger and Mind Matters with four nominations each.
While there were no new faces in the Best Actor and Actress categories, Fann Wong makes her grand return to the Star Awards with her nomination for her role in Doppelganger. The last time she was nominated was for her work in On The Fringe 2 in 2012.
Meanwhile over in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories, first-timers Xu Bin and He Ying Ying earned nods for their performances in Doppelganger and A Million Dollar Dream respectively.
To celebrate and recognise the industry’s best in more ways, two new award categories have also been added: Best Short-form Drama Serial and Best Short-form Variety Programme, which requires each episode to be 20 minutes or under in net duration.
In addition, Toggle Originals are also in the running for both performance and programme categories as Mediacorp wants to recognise and award a wider base of content, and is moving towards a paradigm where programmes will be integrated across all platforms.
