(KB4057401) Keep failing to install

Can anyone advice what should I do..

Windows 2012R2 Standard Server

I have this Windows patch.

2018-01 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB4057401)

Keep prompting this patch available to install on the server.

When I click to install it.. it will restart and prompt the follow error

We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes. Dont turn off your computer

After the error, server will boot up normally.

When I do another Windows update.. This patch will be shown again.

I have tried to download the patch manually as follows.

windows8.1-kb4057401-x64_8d29b472be5466788675ee257355773a4fb4cbff

Installed it and same prompt will appear after reboot.. Go to windows installed updates. The patch is not installed and it will still be shown on the windows update.

Tried to delete away the software distribution folder and do a check windows update. This update will appear.. Install it again and same error after reboot..

Going crazy how to get this patch apply..

Anyone can advise?? Thanks!

Few questions - Is it a die-die to install this KB? what about this >> 2018-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB4056895) - is it installed?

As the fixes/patches released in the 2018-01 preview will be "roll-up" into the 2018-02 security monthly quality rollup, you could wait for Feb patch Tuesday... recently the meltdown and spectre patches also require your AV to be updated too (see this known issue article published by MS https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/...virus-software

hope this helps..

This is Spectre & Meltdown fix I think. If you have Anti virus, your AV must meet MS condition then the fix can install.

Also try to disable your antivirus before patching
Windows Meltdown-Spectre fix: How to check if your AV is blocking Microsoft patch

Applying operating system updates and dealing with antivirus compatibility issues are only half the solution.

As Microsoft noted previously, mitigating Meltdown and Spectre also requires installing firmware updates from hardware vendors.
