Windows 7 Ulltimate Not Detecting USB Thumbdrive

Recently my Win 7 Ultimate PC cannot detect most of my USB
Thumb drive but can detect those 2.5" portable HDD. Tried all the USB
port & same problems.
The un-detected thumb drives can be detected in my office PC & kids PC.
So I thought the mobo USB faulty but after I installed Windows 8 in
another HDD in the same Win 7 PC, all the thumb drive were detected
once I plug them in..
It should some USB driver problem with the Win 7 as Win 8 can detect...
Anybody can advise me how to solve it in Win 7?
Thanks.

Can you open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) with the thumbdrive in and see if any device is listed as malfunctioned or otherwise?

If you did not safely remove your USB device before you unplug it , such things are bound to happen.
It's more of a user habit that create such issue.

sonic, kindly answer this 2 questions:
1) Are you using Sandisk thumbdrive?
2) Do you have Samsung Kies installed in your PC?

Oh, solution is end kiestrayagent process from your task manager and your thumbdrive will work. There are some conflicts with samsung kies and sandisk thumbdrives.
