Redmi 9

Redmi 9 to launch in early 2020 with MediaTek Helio G70 chipset

The Redmi 8 only got official in October, and yet apparently the Redmi 9 is not only already in the works - but coming soon no less.

According to a new rumor, the Redmi 9 will be unveiled early next year, and it will be powered by the yet-unannounced MediaTek Helio G70 chipset. We don't have any details on this, but given the naming / numbering scheme we assume it's slotted below the G90 in terms of performance, and aimed at more affordable offerings.

The Redmi 9 is also said to sport a 6.6-inch notched display, which is up from the Redmi 8's 6.22" panel. The entry-level model will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, up from

XIAOMI MAY LAUNCH EITHER REDMI 9 OR REDMI 9A AND A POWERBANK IN INDIA ON 11 FEB

Per a tweet by Xiaomi's India head Manu Jain, the company will launch its first Redmi smartphone of the year on 11 February in India. The tweet further reveals that "not 1 but 2 amazing surprises are coming", which makes us wonder: is Xiaomi prepping to launch a Redmi and another product entirely? A power bank, perhaps?

Brace yourselves for the first #Redmi launch of 2020, launching on 11th Feb, 12 noon! #MorePowerToRedmi

Not 1️⃣ but 2️⃣ amazing surprises are coming your way!

That speculation isn't baseless — just yesterday, Jain tweeted about the company launching a Redmi power bank soon.

Smooth, suave, POWERFUL! ⚡#Power has a new look. Coming soon on @RedmiIndia #MorePowerToRedmi! Can you guys guess what this is?#Xiaomi ♥️#Redmi pic.twitter.com/ciBVPnnP19

As per a company microsite, the upcoming smartphone will have a 5,000 mAh battery. It is likely to have a textured back and a dual rear camera.

The Redmi 9 is expected to be powered by MediaTek Helio G70 chipset that we saw in the newly-launched Realme C3, as per a previous report. Redmi 9 might offer 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, just like the Redmi 8 (Review).

However, the Redmi 9 is likely to come in more storage variants unlike Redmi 8 that has one sole storage variant. In terms of display, the smartphone might feature a 6.44-inch display with a waterdrop notch. It is also being expected that the phone might debut with MIUI 11 based on the latest Android 10.

REDMI 9 IS COMING WITH BIGGER BATTERY AND PROCESSOR

Last year, Xiaomi released the Redmi 8 series which is an entry-level series with the budget Redmi 8A. These phones are still fresh in the market and are selling like hotcakes especially in India. However, Redmi already has it’s succeeding (Redmi 9) series in works. We can expect that the will come with a better spec sheet while keeping the price on the lower side.

#Redmi has always been synonymous with POWER! 💪

🥊 Power-packed phones
🚄 Powerful processors
📸 Powerful user experience

I'm excited for the things @RedmiIndia will be bringing in 2020! #Redmi2020#MorePowerToRedmi is almost here. Can you guess what is this? 😎#Xiaomi ❤️ pic.twitter.com/6rDu9QAQ3Q

Redmi’s plan for the new year is to chase away more customers from Samsung, Huawei, and Co. in the lower price ranges. With relatively simple Android smartphones, Redmi has been offering good devices for little money for years. The Redmi 7, Redmi 8 and Co. devices appear in regular smartphone campaigns. A very attractive strategy to attract more people. The Redmi 9 could soon be available, as the first Redmi teasers suggest.

Redmi teases new devices: Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9 series incoming? (Update)

Update, February 6 2020 (2:10AM ET): Redmi India has confirmed an event on February 11, and it will launch a phone with a 5,000mAh battery, textured rear cover, and dual rear cameras.

The company has also teased a new device category at the event, with signs pointing to this device being a Redmi-branded USB-C power bank. You can check out the full story over here.

Original article, February 3 2020 (2:33AM ET): The Redmi brand is synonymous with quality budget phones, offering plenty of bang for your buck. We’ve already seen the Redmi 8 and Redmi Note 8 series in the second half of 2019, but it looks like we could get more devices very soon.

Xiaomi global vice-president Manu Kumar Jain has teased the imminent launch of new Redmi devices on Twitter. We also get a video that doesn’t tell us much, save for the fact that the devices are “coming soon.”

The tweet and video clearly don’t give us many clues, but February 2019 saw the Indian launch of the Redmi Note 7 series. Going by this timetable, we therefore expect the Xiaomi sub-brand to launch the Redmi Note 9 family.

We’re not quite sure what to expect from the Redmi Note 9 series, but the Redmi Note 8 offered a 48MP quad rear camera setup and a Snapdragon 665 processor. Meanwhile, the Pro model delivered a 64MP quad rear camera combo and Helio G90T processor.
