THE REDMI K40 WILL BE A 5G SMARTPHONE, NO SENSE IN A 4G VARIANT AT THIS POINT

Back in December 2019, Xiaomi’s Redmi unveiled the Redmi K30 series consisting in a Redmi K30 4G smartphone with Snapdragon 730G and a 5G variant with Snapdragon 765G. This way, the company could sell the new smartphone in two price ranges as the 5G network was still something not accessible for all customers. However, 2020 has come and several months after the release 5G is now a reality in the mid-range segment. A month ago, Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 10X 5G with MediaTek’s Dimensity 820 and an affordable price tag. Now, the company is gearing up to launch the new Redmi K40, and launching a 4G variant is pointless.

THE REDMI K30 PROBABLY WAS THE LAST 4G-ONLY SMARTPHONE IN THE K-SERIES

The Xiaomi M2006J10C will probably be revealed as Redmi K40 or perhaps Mi CC10. This handset was spotted at the 3C department with a 33W charger, the same that comes in the Redmi K30 Pro retail box. Now, the very same handset has appeared on MIIT. The Chinese wireless regulator confirmed a pretty important detail the handset is certified for usage on 5G networks. It’s not a surprise to see the alleged Redmi K40 supporting the new network as the Redmi K30 5G and K30 Pro already support this new connectivity standard. However, it does imply that this time we won’t see a 4G variant of the mid-range phone.

It makes sense for Xiaomi to ditch the 4G devices in the K-series. Apart from being rebranded as Poco X2 in India, the 4G variant of the K30 series is the less interesting device of the series. To make things even more confusing, Redmi launched a Redmi K30i last month which basically is a Redmi K30 5G with a different name. In China, buying a Redmi K40 4G is pointless.

REDMI K40 KEY FEATURES LEAKED, COMING WITH DIMENSITY 1000+

The first half of 2020 is about to pass. So it’s logical we are getting more and more news about the new flagship devices of major smartphone manufacturers. A few days ago, Twitter user @techyvillage disclosed the configuration information of the Redmi K40. It’s going to continue Redmi’s cost-effective strategy. That’s why though it’s not launched yet and this is not an official information, but it has already managed to make a stir around it.

Anyways, as the source claims the Redmi K40 will switch to the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ high-end 5G chip. One of the advantages of this chip is the support for 144Hz refresh rate screen. So it’s logical the Redmi K40 will come with such a screen. But it is said to use an LCD screen. Apart from the aforementioned features, the main camera on the back will use a SONY IMX686 CMOS, which provides a 64MP high-res shooting. At last, the source says our protagonist will support 33W fast charging option.

K40 pro coming also:eek: maybe with SD865+

I tot Qualcomm CEO said sometime in April there will not be any new release for flagship SoC or 865+ SoC coming out until next year SD875... That is why the makers nowadays are coming out with higher tier mid-range models using SD765G and SD768 SoC ....

Redmi K40 display details start seeping out revealing interesting upgrade over the Redmi K30 series

Some new information about the Redmi K40 has been provided by Digital Chat Station in regard to the type of display the upcoming affordable flagship-killer will have. For starters, apparently it will be a flat screen that will be used, so those not keen on the ever-present curved displays found in many current smartphones can breathe a sigh of relief here.

Along with featuring some straight edges on its screen, the Redmi K40 will offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The regular Redmi K30 could also manage up to 120 Hz while the Redmi K30 Pro had to settle for a 60 Hz refresh rate to save the battery life. So while the Redmi K40 supposedly trumps the Redmi K30 Pro here, how is it an improvement over the regular K30 model if they both support 120 Hz?

Well, according to the same source, the Redmi K40 will sport an OLED panel, whereas the Redmi K30 had to make do with an LCD panel. The Redmi K30 Pro has an AMOLED screen, so it seems that Xiaomi has decided to take the best parts of the Redmi K30 series and deliver them with the Redmi K40: 120 Hz OLED panel with a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera. It’s a potentially bright start for the next iteration, which is rumored to be coming with a Snapdragon 775G for the entry model and a Snapdragon 875 for the Redmi K40 Pro variant.
